The last LS I built I prelubed the system with 40-45 psi and it took at least 10 minutes before I had oil on all the rockers.
I’ve seen others stating the same.

Find that strange since I've never primed an LS engine and have only filled the oil pump through the plug on the side of the block and have always seen oil pressure within a few seconds from start up. And in case you didn't know, LS engines send oil to the lifters and rockers before the rods and mains unless your running an aftermarket block.

That’s correct, you will have instant oil pressure on the guage but it will take quite a while before you have oil to the rockers.

Guess I misunderstood the question. I had an oil pressure issue with a 5.3 once and after making some repairs it was ticking away at start up. It took several minutes of running for it to finally quiet down and get back to normal but later learned this engine was gummed all to hell and needed to be rebuilt.

You would think that oil up to the PR's and rockers would happen much sooner too.

Just made a search on the subject, it’s very common and it takes time to get oil up on top.
Here is one:

I guess the moderator didn’t approve the link I just posted, but do a google search on the subject and you’ll find loads of threads with this problem. The majority fixes it self, it just takes time, sometimes up to 10 min or engine up to op temp.
