Understandable, but if you stayed away from a super aggressive cam, I "think" you would be ok. I believe I read several pages ago that SDPC is building one now for a Vette in Cali.........anyone???

But what is an aggressive cam in a LS2??
My 224 is way small I am sure. I need to get a blower cam anyways.

Guess I'll call them....

Yeah I have no idea there.......I think you are right on the money with calling them. Although, and I am just guessing here, isn't a blower cam slightly milder then an aggressive street (N/A) cam? So that would work in your benefit (providing it is correct).

I called them, they are checking to see if anyone smogged it.
I think a blower cam is a split duration with a 114 or 115

If not, I will just go with a forged 347.

A reliable 600 rwhp would be nice. :p

The 6.0 iron block is a little different than the Aluminum LS2 block. The LS2 block requires side mounted knock sensors, front cover with cam sensor in it, and you can only use the single row timming set for the LS2 from GM. The LS2 block will only bore to 4.020 (thats what GM says), and the iron block will go 4.060 (you will want to sonic check it before you go that far).
Here is the only pic I have of the LS2 block.

KJ-

I have a 71 Chevelle that is in need of a new motor. I am interested in a iron 6.0L w/ the callies crank and rods. I want to build something low compression 8.5:1, so I can turbo or supercharge it down the road. This will be a carbureted motor using this manifold: http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/man_chevy_ls1.html

I am hoping for 500hp NA until I buy a turbo when the bank replenishes. What is the going rate on this short block? Do you think there is anything else I need for 700hp?

Thanks,
Mike

The 500 crank HP might be hard to attain with 8.5:1 compression. Even with great heads a healthy hydraulic or solid cam, it might just be touching on the 400hp mark. Good idea on keeping the compression low however for your future endeavors. Sounds like it will be nice in a Chevelle.

After reading the right up on the RAPID 553 rwhp monster I think that is what I'm looking for. How much will that bottom end cost me with an iron block, ready for nitrous. I've been wanting a turbo for a while but the budget is saying pump gas and nitrous. Thanks

Around $3500 for a iron block 402. Call Kris at SDPC and he will hook you up.

Its about $3600 for the iron block 402. Then add $380 for a nice custom cam. $115 for a decent timeing chain. Which has to be bought seperatly. All and all with good tuner and decent heads and good cam upper 400 to somewhere in the 500rwhp on motor shouldnt be to hard. Its about 80ish pounds heavier which is the only down side but its not a huge deal. Also, Kris J. has been really good to work with.

Mike,

I sent you a pm!! We would be happy to build you an iron 402. We have JE pistons on the shelf that we had made just for our turbo motors. They have a -34cc dish and are only .002 out of the hole. We also had them built with a 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 ring grove to accept our Akerly & Childs "Hell Fire" ring package. Let me know if I an get one started for you!!

I wanted to let you guys know that I will be gone on Hot Rod power tour from Thursday the 2nd and will be back at work on the 13th. I am hoping to be able to get online from time to time to answer pm's. When I get back I plan to post all of our options that we have for our 402 and what the prices are. If anyone plans to go on the tour or can make any of the stops be sure to come by the Flowmaster booth. I will be there handing out free catalogs, and I hope to have a special or two for any of the LS1tech members that I see.

Well guys I'm back and I'm glad. Nothing like 4,800 miles round trip in a weeks time Anyway, I wanted to let you guys know that we have yet a few more options for you. We have just recieved a pallet full of Lunati cranks and there NEW "Pro Mod" LS1 rods! One or both would make a very nice upgrade! We have also used these parts to complete our "boost" motor along with our custom JE pistons. Here are the specs on that short block............

Check out our new LS2 402 that is 100% ready for lots of boost!!

**LS2 block with all oil galley plugs & dowel pins
**JE -34cc dish light weight piston .927 pin
**Akerley & Childs "Xtreme" rings ("Hell Fire" 1/16,1/16,3/16)
**Lunati pro mod 6.125 "LS1" rods (new, just released)
**Lunati pro series 4.000 stroke crank 4340 forged steel
**Clevitte "H" main & rod bearings
**Durabond cam bearings
**ARP main studs

Also included:
**Front cover (includes cam sensor, gasket & bolts)
**Valley cover, gasket & bolts
**LS2 timming set
**Shipping crate & stand

Balanced, bluprinted, and assembled ready to ship for $5,399.95

Pricing update on SDPC LS2 short block
We have raised the price on our short blocks $100.00 so we can include a metal stand and a shipping crate. The reason for this is fear of them getting damaged in shipping. We were using the original block crate, but have found out the hard way on one that this is not the safest way to protect your investment. Keep in mind you are still getting the best bang for the buck at SDPC! We still include front cover, valley cover, and timming set in this price.

LS2 402 with -14cc dish pistons new price $4,095.00
LS2 402 with -2cc flat top pistons new price $4,095.00

Please pm, email, or call me with any questions you might have.
