TwoFast4Lv I am thinking of building a pre-turbo low comp 402 and was wondering what kind of power you have seen from a 9:1 402 with a good turbo sized cam. I am wondering how close you can get to 500rwhp with that low of compression. Thanks for any input.

This is exactly what I have built. I am guessing it will be around 450rwhp. I am going to break it in this weekend and will let you know how it compares to my 430rwhp 346.

forgive me if it was asked, i only read the first 2 or 3 pages....lots of great info. will it sit on the Gen3 motor mounts? bellhousing the same for the t56? any little surprises one should expect?

im curious to see what a ported head, nitrous'd, f13'd... 402ci LS2 would do.

I was hoping it would be a little more then that. I was making 438rwhp with my 346 before I installed a Fast/TPIS 90/90 setup and should be at 450 or so now. I'm not expecting a huge increase going to a low comp 402 but it would be nice to have a little more until I can afford the turbo. THanks for your input.

Big ***** G, just wondering if you knew what kind of PTV clearance you had on that dyno'd 402 with the 'big cam'? I just got my shortblock from you and am about to install the AFR 225's and wonder if I need to check it.Thanks

im running the 402 from scoggin dickey with afr 225cc heads and im right around 900rwhp on a mustang dyno.(spinning the tires making 851) and i am running more boost now!! I would recommend running a girdle on the bottom end. mine has been flawless so far.

p.s, big *****, i need the new hookup on my class1 race car. Maybe a NA 427 solid lifter warhawk motor ..thats what kj was suposed to quote out for me right before he left.

Default 402 with Magnasun

I am doing my 402 on my own with parts purchased at SDPC. I just read the 26 or so pages of this thread and would like to see some of your opinions of what I have in the works.
1) 243 ZO6 heads ported with 2.04 intakes and stock ex. valves, 918 Comp springs and titanium retainers, flowed 314 @ .550 and fell off a little @ .600.
2) The cam is the Lingenfelter cam for the Magnasun on the 346 inch motor - don't have the specs here w/me. I think it is 220/224 @ .050 .570/.572 and 114 lobe sep. I was planning a 346 buildup in the beginning.
3) Shortblock will be about what SDPC sells - Eagle crank and rods, LS2 alum block, they special ordered the pistons for me - Diamond 4.010 with -32cc dish. Bearings, rings, timing chain set etc will be what is standard with their 402. I am having it honed and assembled instead of SDPC taking care of it.

After reading all of the posts I am beginning to doubt the cam being enough for the 402 cubic inches - probably the same for the blower but it is what I have and I do have a couple of different pulleys to speed it up some. The heads cc'd at 67 and with the -32 cc pistons and a chometic head gasket it was estimated to be 9.4 to 9.5 on compression. I have 1 3/4 headers and no mufflers w/good air intake system. This is going in a ZO6 Vette.
Like to hear what others have experienced and maybe I should change now?
Thanks - - - Rick

Default Sdpc

It sounds like a lot of you were loosing your cool with Scoggin-Dickey recently.
I have dealt with Brian back when he worked at SDPC before and the "performance shop" also before he returned to SDPC. I also dealt with Kris - both were helpful and always took care of what I needed done. I hope I am not causing them problems here but I also go through a named CJ and he took care of things also. His extension is 345 I think.
Brian may need you to go through him on this stuff but those guys are really covered up usually when I go in their store. I bet it will get better as Brian gets back into the flow of things there. Rick

I don't claim to be an expert, but that 220/224 cam sounds WAY small for a 402 with a blower...........that is actually the cam I am looking at putting in my stock (bolt on) LS1.

Default Magnasun 402

I am really thinking I need to move on to something bigger also. Maybe someone else has done an engine similar to this and might know about where to end up at on duration - I don't think need to get carried away on the lift since my heads work good at .550 and not much above that. I may have to look at special ordering something to work with the blower/402 for this instead of off the shelf.
Might have a brand new Lingenfelter cam for sale if anyone is looking. Also a new Lunati crank for standard stroke 346.
I may be stepping over the line mentioning sale items here - if so I will not do that anymore.
Thanks for the input. Rick

We run a 218/230 in our 408. Car made 430hp/450tq NA. Added 14lbs of boost and it made 820hp/790tq rw on pump gas so far. The car idles smoothly at 600rpm.

Brian has _always_ returned my calls. It may take 2 days for it to happen (which is understandable, and has not been a problem) but he always returns the call, and calls back with answers to my questions. The other guys I talked to over a 6 week period, _never_ (not once) returned my calls or called back with answers to any of my questions.

I would definitely say, ask for Brian!

My rear cover was missing (it was supposed to be included/installed/aligned), and he's taking care of getting me what I need for that. They even found a cheaper cover alignment tool recently, and are planning to let me borrow it...

I E-mailed Brain 2 weeks ago. He said he'd post up here in a couple days.

I dealt with chris when I ordered my motor. Over the 3-4 week wait I usally got in touch right off the bat. But when I had to leave a message he always returned my calls shortly after. There were a few times where it took him a few days to return a call becaus he was busy, but needless to say he did return them. If you ordered something, just have faith they are working on it or working on getting to it im sure.

I might be interested in making a purchase but I'd like to get some other "new projects" info.

Have to make contact first. Finally got through to Scott, couldn't answer my questions.
