Default Better Gas Mileage...BIG C.I. or Blown Engine?

First let me say that if this is in the wrong forum I apologize and feel free to move, which I know you will, to the correct forum. Second I know what you are all thinking "Gas Mileage" you gotta pay to play, and I understand this, but which would be better for a daily driver.
I would love to stuff an LS7 between the fenders of my camaro, but if the same performance could be had and better gas mileage from a roots blown LS2 I think I would have to take the later.
So the question is this: Which would provide better mileage and daily driveability, an LS7 or Blown LS2 backed with a 6 speed and same rear gear ratio?
Thanks,
Shane

Shane- Don't know about the milage question. Which place have you been dealing with. I'm in kendall and am looking for a place to solve my problems, with the truck that is.

The most fuel efficient vehicle is a smaller displacement engine with a turbo on it. The turbo doesn't have the parasitic drag of a supercharger and it's more efficient at building boost at lower rpm. You can have a 600 rwhp turbo car and still get over 30 mpgs if it's in something sleek like a Corvette.

I used to live in Kendall, where abouts are you (152nd PL and Coral Way)? There arent very many good shops in Miami but I hear good things about Rev Extreme in Tampa which is where I have a house now. Im currently living in cuba though. I know its a different platform but what kinda mileage are you getting(before and after SC) This will give me a good guestimate because I know what the traffic is like in Miami.
Also you should check out www.sffba.net, I know they used to meet at Fuddruckers on US1 Wed @ 8 I believe.

Patrick,
Thanks for the reply! Ive always wanted a Chevelle with a 454 and a Camaro with a 427. I own a Chevelle with a 454 now its the second part of my dream to bring to life, but the reality is I dont need 2 crazy gas eating monsters and one needs to be a DD. I really like the feeling of the torque down low. Honestly I rarely ever race so it kinda seems like a turbo or Cent. SC is a cup of tea when I want coffee.
I was really trying to talk myself out of the LS7 with an LS2 by using the reality/adult logic but I want my toys now when I can use them. It will probably cost more for the LS2+SC than it would for an LS7 anyway. Dam descisions we have to make in our lives...

i'm blown, and in miami. i get about 18-20mpg from daily driving. i do 50% highway and 50% city. i can probably get more mileage outta her if i go slower on the highway. but anything below 90 is slow. this is of course with a t56.

N/A will win hands down. FI motors have to be tuned more conservatively to stay safe and usually take alot of injector. N/A can run more lean safely.

I have a few customers that have decided to super charge their stock Corvette and their car picked up 125-150 horse power and the miles per gallon only changed by 2 mpg..considering that they were getting 28 MPG on the highway that in not a bad trade off..I know that my mileage went down the crapper when I put a large cam in..about 6 miles per gallon lower.. ..but when you step on the throttle and wind it up to 6800 rpm's who is thinking about miles per gallon..

Shane- My milage went from ok to really crappy, but I'm under boost most of the time. 5400# of truck takes some fuel to get it to move. On the highway, I hardly lost any milage as long as the cruise control is on
I live by town & country mall. Used to go to Fuddruckers for the once a month show back when it was good. Too bad all the kids in the rice got it closed down. Think I'll give rev extreme a call.

i would say fi, if you keep your foot out of it, but who cares about mpg if your building a engine for power????

Like I said in the first post, I know you have to pay to play. But its just a simple question of which one gets better mileage. I already have car that needs a tanker to follow it, I dont need another, especially for a DD.
Some people care about how the car performs and its streetabilty not just the biggest chugging engine out there. If you can have an engine with stock street manners with the performance of a built 427, and get better mileage for the same or less price Id choose that.
Its not just an engine for power but an all around engine. With gas prices the way they are I dont want to sink a butt load of money into a project just to have to get rid of it cause I cant afford the gas and never be able to recoupe any expenses.

Yep I get high 20's mpg runing E85 fuel on a AWD car so long as I stay out of the boost.

Especially on the HWY away from the city on cruise.

On a LS series for MPG I would run a 4.8 crank in a LS2 block and two turbos on reversed truck manis like stenod... You could go smaller with the turbos if you wish.. Your cruise MPG would be the same provided with nearly any turbo size provided its large enough not to be boosting at part throttle cruise.

Runing the LS2 block would even allow you to potentially add cylinder deactivation later.

With a manual I could probably get around 28 mpg... provided I dont tap into the 2k hp.

That would be my ultimate all around MPG and HP OHV V8...

A baby northstar (aurora) with twin garrets is another option but quad cam....

The GDI engines will be even better.

I am at a disadvantage with AWDs extra weight and minor increase in driveline losses plus the fact that my choice in fuel...E85... at cruise gets about 10% mpg less.. At full power A/F more like 30% MPG.. So there is a bigger difference in btw city and hwy and the city can vary alot more.

If people are ridding my but at a normal persons rate leaving a light I do better than if some ricer is talgating and reving because when they get too close I clutch again when rolling, rev up and do rolling launch..
