Default Can I spin 7K

I am changing cams and was wondering if I would need to change rod bolts for the new cam. I have an 01 LS1. The new cam will make power all the way to 7K. Is it safe to spin this RPM on stock rod bolts? Any imput is appreciated

If you intend on spinning it that fast I'd change the rod bolts just to be on the safe side.

More important is valvetrain to prevent valve float... hardened pushrods, Ti retainers, good springs (I like CC918). With these upgrades, 7000rpm should not be an issue.

everything is good on valvetrain... I have hardened pushrods and crane double valvesprings in there right now. I didn't do titanium retainers because they weren't necessary with the lift of the cam. The rod bolts would be my only weak link and was told that I shouldn't have to change them because 01 and 02 rod bolts were stronger rod bolts. I just wanted to see how many of you guys were doing it on stock rod bolts. I will probably shift around 6800 but want to be sure incase I push it one or two times.

You should be fine although if your in there modding anyways why not change them and have peace of mind knowing when you hit 7K your not thinking about your rod bolts? Just a thought I know the first time I hit 7K I was looking in the rearview for smoke, made me a little nervous.

I am not takin the engine out of the car to swap the cam. Which is what I would have to do to replace the rod bolts.

The only way I would bother changing the rod bolts is if I was changing the crank as well.

7000 rpm with that valvetrain should be fine. I run that high intermittently on the roadcourses without any problems as long as the motor is not too hot.

TI retainers dont pertain to what you cam specs out at but ...has alot to do with where you will "float" at, the lighter any peice of the "valvetrain is the less the chance you will run into a issue

NICE HOOD!!! stangeaterSS!!!

7,000 RPMs should be fine for a little while, although some head studs would help piece of mind greatly... (at least they would help my piece of mind, if I were spinning to 7,000.)
