LS2 402 Longblock assembly questions.

Default LS2 402 Longblock assembly questions.

Hey guys, I have a couple of questions. I have pretty much everything to slap together my longblock on the stand and was wanting to ask a couple of questions.

Can I install the cam without having the rear cover on the shortblock?

Can I install the heads without the rear cover?

I need the rear cover from the LS1 that is in the car. I am a little fried with the engine removal process as I don't have a lift so I wanted to do some clean work on my new stuff.

if there is a thread with a step by step of the longblock assembly, the short block came out of a crate already assembled, I would love to get the link. I am having some search difficulties.

Yes, you can do the heads and cam without the rear cover, no problem.

Yes, you can assemble everything to your short block weith out the rear cover on. Remember to use the spoecial tool to align the cover, and seal!

Do you guys sell this tool? How much?

Also, the guy that does your (SDPC) customer service (forget his name), RULES!!!

I had a problem where I was sent the wrong parts and he made it right really quickly. I will do alot more business with you guys.

You can use a thin feeler gauge to slip the lip of the seal over the end of the crank, kinda like an old shoe horn.

The tools he's referring to are the Kentmoore LS1 specific tools. I was fortunate enough to have a friend who had a set along with the GM manual.

Hehe. I found a work around. I put a little assembly lube around the crank and I just started 4 bolts and then I used my finger nail (needs clipped but glad I had it long at the time) to slip it to the inside. It went on easy. Also, I used the old rear main seal to press the new one on. Here is where I am posting all of the work so far.
