Default any cam possible on an ls-1 without stall

looking to put a crate ls-1 in a 68 camaro.. going to use a 200r4 transmission and 3.73 rear.. what changes can i make without putting in a stall converter?

i understand the hotcam,224 cams and the asa cams would all require a stall.. would a z06 cam be worth an install and would I need a stall?

You do realize that a "stall" is short for "stall converter" which is just a "torque converter" and you will have to have one anyway right? It's not some extra piece or anything...

BTW - we have an automatic tranny section you could have put this in too.

Well the ls6 cam will make more hp than your stock one for sure, ya they would make more with the ls6 heads but it would be like having a sleeper cause you really cant tell u have an ls6 cam in your car.

We have put some TSP 224/228 114 cams in stock converter cars and they drive like stock and have excellent power results. But if your looking for performance, a stall converter along with the cam is going to be the thing that really gets the car moving.

i've tuned a X1 cam in A4 car with stock 3.23s and stock converter. took me a while to figure it out, but we ended up with no hesitation, jerking, stalling or anything like that. people that tell you to throw more hardware at it just don't know/don't want to spend the time tuning it properly.

why is everyone so scared to put a stall in? Once you have a stalled car, you will look back and wonder why you didnt get one earlier. What is the obsession of getting cam before the stall. You know that a stalled car will be faster than a car with a stock stall and cam, due to the fact you will be inyour powerband with a stall, just my opinion here...

Default Stall Converter

Also, with a lock up style conveter, you will have no slippage in high gear so on the open road it will be just like stock. Driving around town it will slip but it will be fun to drive.

With stall converter
Without stall converter

I don't think it would be worth doing a stock LS1 with a stock torque converter. It's pretty much standard issue that you go with more stall whether you change the cam or not.
