Katech "Value 427" short blocks
#102
Hi
Nice motor. Sorry I am new to re-sleeving blocks. Just woundering how it works. It appears all the material between the bores have been removed. Is the strength of the block affected? Are Darton mid sleeves an option?
Thanks JA

Katech "Value 427" short block with Katech forged LS7 pistons, hardcoat anodized..................................$7230
Billet main Caps.........................$1000.
*********************Total $8230
With a Forged 3.62 Crank (+ $1000?), and the above upgrades, what's the build time and cost?

If you just want the short block, 1 week...If that.

Stupid newbie question
Could you use the value 427 block with the 9 to 1 ratio to make an engine for a race car tow vehicle/daily driver and use cheap heads like on a 2005 GTO engine or a LQ9? Would not the iron block from the LQ9 be better for making big cube blocks than the aluminum block? 65 pounds would not be that much extra weight if the iron block was better. JB

Low Compression
The reason I stated the low compression was, if I came into some money later on I could always have the foundation and I could update the top end. I figure that would be better than getting a cheaper block with better heads and then updating the block later on when I was ready for boost. JB

What about for LS2 GTO the 24x vs 58x Reluctor Wheel? Can that be changed or does that mean different crank? I was thinking your short block and all stock parts from LS2 for 05 GTO 6sp. Maybe Cam Kit oil pump LS7 Timing Chain but use as much as I can from stock LS2 7K Mi.. Does this make any sense? What would it take to make work? I can do upgrades later. I know there are cheaper upgrades I just want 7ltr!

Yea, that makes sense. You could do the upgrades later. Yes, we can build with the 58x crank trigger.

I think I知 gna order 1 of Katech 427 short block he says all I would need is Bolt and Gasket set and part out my LS2. I wonder how it would run with stock LS2 parts; I知 thinking small cam kit but just want good running driver. He says there blocks are better than stock LS7 used in other example no failures and they seem to have a top notch facility and rep. I know there are cheaper mods just want to start with 427 and do mods later if I want, could do 402 with stroker kit but just not same to me. Any one know about 58x crank trigger I have read that it started in 05 and 06 both. Any one know for sure I知 thinking all LS2.

Sounds good. You should have a torque monster for the time being until you get some heads. I've got a good cam for you also. 58x started in 06. Since you have the engine out of that GTO you should pull the crank sensor off and look in the hole. Check to see if there are small teeth (58x) or Large (24x).
