Default Anyone running larger than 427 on street??

Was wondering if anyone has been running anything larger than a 427 on the street. Had someone offer me a good deal on a 5.7 block bored and stroked to 438. Was told by some that oil consumption would most likely be an issue. Any thoughts? Most likely will be working with LME on their 427 deal but thought I would toss this around since the offer came up. Thanks guys.

Building my streetable 454 as we speak. Should have it going in a few weeks depending on how long it takes to recieve my final parts. If the motor is built correctly, it shouldn't have any problems. I'd be digging to see who did the work and the specs.

Is that 650rwhp on spray? LME was being conservative with their numbers but they are saying like 535rwhp is what I should expect. I have been told by alot of people that 535 is a weak number for a 427 and I would have to agree. What intake setup are you running by the way? Thanks for the help.

A reputable guy in Nashville would be putting it back together. The motor is out of a Race only vette has about 100 miles on it. Ed Mccain is the guys name who has the setup, supposedly has done alot with GM and I hear he has a killer twin turbo vette done by lingenfelter that was on Horsepower TV couple of weeks ago.

No thats my blower setup. Here the dyno graph on a small cam for a 427. Im not going to give the specs of it. Custom grind and it is small. Solid roller I could get 600 + easily 27 degrees of timing pump gas no tricks

I know a guy who is running a c5r 427 with a 200 shot on top of that. He has a small cam only 550 rwhp on dyno sheet. But real flat torque curve! Expecting way over 700 to the wheels on nitrous and is looking for single digits. His car is mainly for the street, but not a daily driver.

10.97@130 on a 2003 Z06 with BFG's(1.87 60). CCW drag pack is going on this month to see what she will do with 26's on her. Then I have anohter friend who has the CCW drag pack with 28's. So we will run the 26's on the motor and run the 28's with the TNT 150 shot We are expecting a 9 sec pass out of this and drive the car home

Yes, its old news to have a 427ci. and bigger, there's probably hundreds of bigger engines out there. Mine was built in 2002.

Your oil burning question: I think its gonna be a thing of the past with the longer Darton sleeves (5.800" long). Mine burned zero oil for the first year, but now its pathetic. (1 qrt per 100 miles) BUT...the sleeves in my engine are old bastards (short sleeves) and along with my long stroke (4.125) it kills the rings and takes the cylinder out of shape over time because the piston actually "rocks" back and forth at the bottom of the stroke.

I would never buy a used engine that was a race engine only, NO WAY.

Get a new block with the new sleeves and stroke it safely to 4.250.

I'm doing a 447ci, have all my parts, waiting on the block. LS7 with the new Darton sleeves. 4.155 bore x 4.125 stroke. Plenty of piston support at the bottom of the stroke, which is the culprit to the oil burning problems.

I sure hope LME can get more than 535 RWHP with a 427. 535 is a joke. The shop building my engine just built a LS2 422ci, LS7 heads, LS7 intake, small 230 cam, and it made 580 RWHP. He also built my friends engine, also a 422ci, 3 1/2 years ago, with FAST 90/90, LS6 intake and LS6 heads and it made 535 RWHP back than. He started spraying a 300 shot 1 year ago and the engine is still running perfect. Daily driver street car only.

We are building a 455 right now for a GTO.....details later after completion. We have done a few over 427 inches....one of which isin Ryan Hiner's Camaro (444cid) which rearely sees drag strip use, but often can be seen cruising the Detroit area streets.

Nice TQ and HP curve, what heads and intake are you using?

Thumbs up

over 427 is easy to do and run on the street. Half the LS1 "engine shops" building these do not know what they are doing and that's why you see the problems. I have done several 434-455s and no one has had any issues. You have to know what you are doing with the sleeves and the pistons.

I've got a 4.125" stroke and it has about 100,000 miles on it. But my rings do need replacing.

There's nothing wrong with a long stroke as long as you use those new longer Darton sleeves. You should get way more than 60,000 miles. Use the old shorter sleeves like mine and you'll have oil burning issues after about 15,000 miles. My new 447ci is getting the new sleeves with a 4.125 stroke. Otherwise I wouldn't use more than a 4.000" for longevity.
