Does a brand new block need a Line Hone or a Cylinder Hone?!

Ok, i'm not a machinist, but seems to me, if this is the same block they use for production and they throw pistons rods and a crank in it and expect it to go 100K miles with out a problem, whats the point?!

Hell... what is a Line Hone? Cylinder Hone?

I see you are already trying to be a cheap *** and cut corners. Line hone should be checked...If its not within the assemblers spec it should be machined. Even on my new 5.7 block I still had to run a light hone on the cylinders before final assembly.

PS...

You're a cheap bastard.

the key thing to do in any engine build is to CHECK it...

if its too far out of your specs (your specs may or may not be tighter then the OEM ones) then you need to do it....

(this generalized advice applies to every part of the motor)

How did I know you were going to leave a comment here.

None the less, it IS being done. I was just asking if it was necessary and what it was.

A cylinder hpne is where they use like a bristle brush sort of thing and run in up and down the cylinder walls. This creates a crosshatch pattern in the walls which helps to seat the piston rings during break in. A line hone, I think, is done to the mains to maintain their roundness. If you use ARP main studs, you MUST get a line hone as the studs distort the main housing.

Let your builder do his job. You just foot the bill when its done. Im sure he has a vast array of knowledge over yourself. Therefore, if you question something im sure he will be glad to answer instead of getting false information from the 90% of the board who havent a clue then they attempt to disagree with the 10% that do know wtf is going on.

The line hone has to be done with the ARP main studs installed and torqued down.

I'm sure they know that, I essentially traded my block for their finished block and paid for the machining.
