Default How to make 450WHP in a TBSS

For this summers upgrades I am looking for 450WH in an AWD TBSS. My supporting mods will be CAI, Exhaust, Long tubes, pullies, and a 160 stat. I'm looking to do L92's out of the box with milling for compression, the L76 intake kit, but now i'm wondering on a cam? I dont want to have to go with a stall converter...there are SO many cams out there i'm sick of looking. I would just like a little input on a cam and to find out if 450 WHP is realistic with what I will have.

Thanks,
Rich

don't go for rwhp with an AWD vehicle, dyno numbers will be nearly irrelevant. Just say you want to go "mid 12's" with stock converter or something like that.

Get L92's ported/L76 intake kit. Nice size cam, big headers, and a mild converter like 3200 YankSS.

Bad thing about the L92's is that they like big cams and BIG headers apparently. you may want to consider a rear mount turbo kit of some sort if you really want a mild ride.

Yeah the STS turbo was and still is a consideration but not this year. First i'd like to tackle the the H,C,&I. I really dont want to do the stall but like you said and i've been reading the L92's do like big cams and headers. Kook's 1-3/4 LT's are on the list though. i've never dealt with an LSx type engine so i'm kinda new here and as far as AWD its wierd to ask for HP#'s is it RWHP AWHP or what?? What do you consider a nice size cam, this is a daily driver rain, sleet or snow!!

Thanks,
Rich

depends on what you want and how much $$$ to spend..etc.

If you want to go FI soon, then just wait for engine mods. Likely have to build the tranny ($1500-2000 from RPM, the best in my book), get a converter $700+, trans cooler $50-100, etc. Only problem with L92 setups I can forsee is that they are a great/cheap way to make lots of hp, but it will probably be a loud rumbly car! They also seem to like big cubes, so maybe a forged 402 LS2 motor would be a good starting point. Basically, figure $4500 on a foged shortblock, $1800 on completely ported/assembled L92 heads, $528 on intake/TB/rails/injectors, $1500 on headers and catback....this would be an ideal combo.

Cheaper...stock Ls2 shortblock (364 cubes), untouched L92 heads with good springs ($1100), L76 kit ($528), medium cam to focus on torque ($400), headers and catback ($1500), converter/cooler ($800), tuning ($500), and installation ($????). This would make probably 450-465 crank hp pretty easily.

Why not consider the L92 Intake in your TB?
Might not make the top end number like the L76 but could help with torque numbers down low to move that big truck. And you certainly have the room under the hood.
(You could always buy the complete L76 and a bare L92, swap the parts then sell the bare L76)

I second the L92 intake suggestion. It's pretty nice piece, especially when ported. I recently opened up the bore on one and did some runner work. It looks plenty big to support your goals.

I take it then the L92 intake will save me some $$ then? But with AWD I think even with the L76 i'll get alot of cars out of the hole and then have the top end charge to open up the gap? We'll see though keep the replies coming i appreciate them and am listening. I just want to get a good parts list together so by summer I can start to buy. Anymore suggestions on cams?? LGM, Thunder Racing, MTI, Livernois, etc...

Thanks,
Rich

L92 heads with L76 intake, cam and stall...

LGmotorsports has done research on a LS2 with L92s and made close to 500rwhp out of a stock LS2 bottom end with their cam and L92 heads.

IMO, you wouldnt be gaining anything, but loosing upper rpm with a L92 intake opposed to L76 intake.. with a 4000 stall bottom end means nothing, and top end is king

not only the accessories, but your intake tube would be in the fan shroud, Stop by Livernois, you are local to them, they'll steer you in the right direction

If you are just looking for 450, I would stick with some ported LS6 heads (like from Livernois) and the factory intake manifold. Throw in a cam, headers, CAI, and upgrade to electric fan and you should get to 450 no problem.
