Congrats to all involved for the fantastic results! Kevin - hope you find a tire that lets you use the power and meets the rest of your criteria.
Anyone care to comment on how this setup would perform with an automatic? That 500rpm idle and monster power seems like the hot ticket for TBSS and truck guys, and/or anyone stuck with only two pedals.

Changed the oil last night - again. That makes it the third time on the build. Bone dry underneath the car. No sign of any leakage or seepage.
I drove the car to work today for the first time in months.
Well, the car passed the Ultimate Drivability Test - Northern VA rush hour.
My commute is 35 miles up Rt 66 and around the Beltway. Traffic flows between 80 and 0 MPH with a few spots of creeping along. This car is really no more difficult to drive than a stock 6 speed. It's easier in many respect in that I leave it in 6th gear for speeds over 25MPH. It pulls off cleanly from basically idle RPM in 6th gear. It's like driving and automatic.
To say the least - merging is not a problem.
In keeping with forum rules...I did not have a Mustang with wide rear tires and skinny fronts chase me down in a lighter traffic area. I did not see him coming up strong behind me. He did not pull up beside me and didn't throw a few revs at me. I didn't downshift into third when I wasn't going 70 and I didn't ruin his little day...

Glad to hear Kevin. I too drive my car to work occasionally, but only on the weekends. I can do the bumper to bumper traffic, but prefer to let her stretch her legs.
Do you have any plans of stretching her legs if you get a clear path to get away from the commuters ? Open her up man, she's begging for it !!!!

Hey I drove my vette to work today too; just too nice of a day not to. I take 66 in as well and the beltway to Tyson's Corner. Before I swapped cams traffic was a nightmare; now it is manageable especially when those unsuspecting MOOOstangs don't get to see what lightweight plus torque equals; well besides roasting rear tires.

Absolutely, let's get together for lunch one of these days. PM me and I will get you my contact info. Just remember my Slovette is an honest 100 hp down from yours so you might need to drag an anchor.

Im new to this site and trying to figure out how to leave posts so that I can get a ffew questions answered. I have a 1998 firebird convert that I picked up because the price was right, and the stock ls1 in it was shot. Since the car is in amazing condition and it only had 57,000 on the clock I figured I would drop a ls6 in it that I found for a great price, new crate engine. So my question is, would I gain big HP numbers by swapping out the cam to a 079 with the .551 square lift from the cam that is in it? The lift numbers on the cam are around .479 and a 116 cent lobe. Or would it be better to just wait and do a spendy set of heads with the cam. I figure there has to be a pretty big gain with just the cam, but I have been more into the old muscle than the high tech modern machines. Also when I did the engine swap I found that it wasnt really all that bad having a lift in my shop, so would the head job be easier with the engine out again.

Had the car out today and finally felt the clutch had enough miles on it to see what the car will actually do. I've had 200+ MPH GP bikes and lots of pretty fast cars. This thing could get me in serious trouble - quickly. Traction control off and the wheels spun until I shifted into 4th and let up. The 315 PS2's are worthless even on hot roads. It builds speed/revs sooooo fast in 1st and 2nd, shifting fast enough is a challenge. Maybe a shift light will help. ?? The M12 tranny is probably overkill.
The car is just brutally quick when pushed hard yet cruises fine in 6th gear at 1000RPM.
It's just schizophrenic as hell and an amazingly fun toy.
