Default 220/232 For L92/427?

I received my 427 on Friday. I thought that the cam that I was getting was to be a Comp X-ER 230/242 on a 115. What I got is a 220/232 116+2.

I will work this out with the supplier but I am curious how this small cam would run in a LS7 based 427 with Livernois ported L92s. Any thoughts?

Mark

That seems very small too me. I went with a 257/266 on a 110. Now that seems to be a little much and the car will not idle any lower than 1150, but I would think somewhere around your 230/242 should be perfect.

That is what I thought too. I'll be getting the correct cam.

Default Cam

I have 234/242 on a 114LSA in my LS7 with the LS7 top end and it is a very tame cam that hasen't even been tuned yet.A little lope but just enough to hear there is a cam in it at about 900 RPMS.I think with a good tune it should be a very docile streetable combination. No numbers yet?!Traver

That is very good to hear. That means that the 230/242 115 that I am getting should be docile as well. Thanks for the info!

I think the 230 is even too small with that displacement. especially that LSA, my guess is that will make lots of low end torque but not much top end.

I think that the 230/242 115 will work out ok. I guess that I'll find out soon...

Food for thought, Katech LS7 torquer cam is a 220/244 or 242. Pretty stout cam

That's with LS7 heads. I'm not sure that that big a split is really necessary for the CNC'd L92's.

I'd look at something like a 238-242 112 +2.

My $.02

I agree Kevin, I was just trying to say that the cam doesn't have to be that big to produce good resullts, especially with good heads.

You wouldn't know anything about that would you

He got it together and it's running. No dyno numbers yet, but he has about 1500 or so miles on it. He has a thread up at corvetteforum.com.

What Dave said.

I do have it up and running. I have about 175 miles on it. I have been lazy and had not posted anything here yet. I will soon.

It runs and drives fine even with the minimal tuning that I have done. I have not made it to the local dyno yet. It is on my list of things to do.

I love it! I originally had a Vortech S-Trim @ 6.5psi and headers on the car. The 427 has way more torque than the blower setup did.

I am running the AutoTune tune that I was using with my heads/cam 346. All I did was raise the idle to 950, make a tweak for the 90mm TB, change the dispacement, and a couple of other little things. The car starts right up and idles nicely. I have driven in traffic quite a bit with no issues. I get a slight idle dip sometimes when I disengage the clutch and a slight surging at light throttle. I think that a couple of AutoTune sessions with EFILive will take care of those issues.

I am really, really happy that went ahead with the 427. So far everything just works. No issues at all.
