Default Car Craft L92 head budget build lie!

I must admit it was the Car Craft article a couple of months ago that got me reved up about doing a project and going genIII/IV. They claimed they used an LQ4 motor from LKQ , ran there first numbers, then next month put on the L92's and a comp cam and made around 540. I looked at the pictures closely and noticed they had flat tops in the short block. There was half the numbers right there! I've been around the block a time or two but they got me on this one.

Thats what I'm saying, I think they knew they had an LQ9, Iwas searching for the wrong parts right from the get-go. Now I know, mill off .030, get some LQ9/ LS2 piston/rods then I'm set.

You have to realize there will almost always be some layer of bullshit or error in anything you read or see on a screen.

You wouldn't want to. It would cause piston to valve interference.

Understand that people make slip up's all the time. Just because it happens in a slant towards the higher hp+ you're all up in arms.

hey, here's an idea,

next time you want to express your thoughts on mis-printed automotive abominations, write an e-mail to CC instead. Maybe then some good might come of it.

geeez... give the guys a break.

I love those calls...."I saw an article where they put this head on this short block and made this much power....I want that same thing." Then when I ask for more details so I can help with the parts they are amazed that I don't know which article they are referring to (since many of these articles refer to us as the place where the parts came from) and get bitter when I make a different suggestion. Good times!

No hard feelins' just makes you feel like a newb when you get sucked in by the article, I've worked on everthything from 200mph cars to a 1500hp monster truck and a few other things in between but this new engine ,this scratch I had to itch, the gen III got me excited again. I'm still going forward, got my LS2 flats and rods and gonna whack .030 off the heads. Matts' been very helpful (This is Mike from Cali who keeps maxing out the card!) steered me away from the LS6 springs I would of never known about, taking time to answer stupid newb questions. SDPC is def. tops! There is always someone who knows more, even some customers.

Glad we can help! Hope you and others don't take offense to it when I steer you away from the EXACT same thing an article says

Never go 100% with an article We've had a few magazines do writeup's at our shop and it was all scewed up when it came out in print. They will fluff whatever they can and give wrong info
