Default LSx Block 5th & 6th holes, M8????

I have not seen anyone talk about what studs should be used in the 5th and 6th head stud holes in the new LSx block. It looks like we can use the M8 bolts that we already use on the top row that get torqued to 25lbs or so. My only concern is how much do M8 bolts really help? Is the game plan to add 16 M8 studs from ARP and run the top ones inverted with nuts on the bottom near the lifters?

ARP says they are working on a kit for the block, but I did not ask what they had for hardware.

Well as far as the extra bolts are concerned the top row are inverted 9mm and the bottom row are 8mm.

My plan is to run 1/2in studs in the traditional locations and stick with the 9mm and 8mm for the 5th and 6th fasteners. Doesn't seem like much but their isn't much distance between the extra fasteners and the standard ones.

When I spoke to ARP they said they were working on a stud kit for the LSX but it wouldn't be released for 6-12 months. I'm trying to get something together with them for the short term but I'm still waiting on ET to tell me the thread depth of the 9mm studs and the thickness of the casting for the 8mm studs.

So far:
8 - ARP AFG-2.550-1LGB Studs
8 - 200-8594 washers
8 - 300-8301 Nuts

Working on the 3/8" stuff for the #6 holes.

Yes do believe so... We've got two options on the top bolts
7/16" Threads Block side tapered to 3/8" threads head side
or
3/8" head studs throughout

you don't have anything to gain by going the tapered route, the smallest cross sectional area will still govern the maximum clamping load since it will fail first.

Your 100% right but which one do you think is going to have more clamping force in the aluminum head? The larger 7/16" is going to be better in the aluminum head vs the 3/8".

I'm pretty sure the upper (6th) holes are designed for 8mm bolts. My instruction sheet that came with the block calls out 9mm holes, that's 1mm total clearance. It also doesn't look like there's enough clearance on the bottom side to clear a nut for anything bigger than an 8mm nut (5/16"). I also doubt that GM would design for a 9mm(or 3/8") bolt/stud on the upper 6th hole, and then tap the outer 5th holes for 8mm.

Just spoke with ARP and those studs ARE NOT the L19 material...they are the standard 8740 stuff. Still talking with them trying to figure out the L19 stud situation...it looks to be 100% custom right now, nothing on the shelf ready to go. FYI, will keep you all updated.
