Default GM LSX Bowtie Block.. Likes, Dislikes, etc??

Just wondering what is going on with this new block?? How are people liking it and is it worth the $2000 dollar price tag? Any of you guys running one and what cubic inch did you go with?? I'm thinking about getting one sometime soon, but don't really know what the best combo would be as far as cubic inches go. Big bore and small stroke, small bore and big stroke, or a little of both..

Thanks,
Matt

That would be just Jim-Dandy. But do a 4.100 stroke and have a 454ci.

Yeah I'd rather go 454ci, but why pay the extra money when I've got a 408 now and can just re-use my Lunati Billet Rods and Callies Crank..

Love it, if my car wasn't so lite with it (2200 lbs) I would be building one as we speak. Best $2000 or less you could spend. If I can ever get a heavier car I will be building a max bore, 4" stroke with a F-3R Procharger on ethanol. Will handle just about any power you can throw at it. Every year more stuff will be getting cheaper & eazy to find for it also, it's the future, don't miss it.

You better check the cylinder legnth before you get caught up in the 4.250" stroke. I'm not sure if it can support an adequate ring stack for a sustained period.

I'm just curious as to how much more power the 443ci combo would make using the same heads that I have on my 408.. AFR 225's milled to 65cc.. I'd get a different cam of course, but can't afford bigger heads right now..

A good builder can get 1-1.5 hp per cubic inch out of an engine. But if you're gonna put those kind of heads on a 443ci, you're gonna be at the lower end, maybe less than 1 hp per cubic inch. Gotta build an engine where everything matches and compliments each other. You can put those heads on 495ci tall deck LSX block and it won't be any better. Cubic inches don't mean diddly if you can't feed them with air.

650 RWHP and a nice idle, for sure. Maybe approaching 700 RWHP depending on which high $$$ intake you use and the best heads.

I knew that... Just wondering how much more power it would make going up 40 cubic inches with the same airflow... And if it would be worth the money spent.. This is a nitrous motor by the way.. If I go to the Bowtie Block I plan to pour the nitrous to it like theres no tomorrow..

Than its easy to figure out a close estimate.

443 - 408 = 35 cubes So, about 30-35 hp increase would be my guess. But if you slapped on a set of hogged out LS7 or even better, All-Pro heads, you could get close to that 52 hp increase. This is for an M6 BTW. Now, since there isn't an intake that will allow these heads to even flow near their potential, if you can get a sheet metal or an ITB intake you'll get perhaps double that, so probably 100+ additional over your 408.
I am quite confident that my new engine, 454ci, will put down 650 RWHP and still have a pretty nice idle.

You have to figure the extra 200 lbs. with the iron block. That means you give up .2 in the 1/4 mile. So the gain
may not be worth the dollar per HP ratio by the time you get new heads. Unless you plan on using lots of nitrous or boost it may not make you all that faster??

It doesn't weigh 200lbs more than my current IRON block 408.. And yes I do plan to use a big hit of nitrous. Two of them actually..

IF.. IF I was too buy a new set of heads for a 440ci+ LSX what would be the best way to go? ETP 265's, ETP LS7, or ETP C5R??? I've been out of the loop for a little while since I completed my last build so I'm kinda in the dark on this one. I know that with the ETP 265's you have to use the expensive custom Jesel rockers and whatever intake you run will have to be worked on in order to bolt to the 11* heads. What about the LS7 and C5R heads? They make a carb style intake for the LS7 heads right? Anything else have to be changed? I'm assuming rocker arms would be different and expensive as hell too. I don't know jack about the C5R heads, but I didn't notive much of a price difference between the three of those head choices from ETP. Any other head thats better? All Pro, etc??

I know where a set of ETP 265's are, a port matched Victor Jr, and a set of the custom Jesel rockers that are all brand new and are for sale. Should I buy those or go bigger???

Fill me in here guys..
