ENGINE OIL SUPPLEMENT BY GM
We used to use the stuff back in the 60's to help seat the rings and engine break-in after a rebuild. I was told by the service manager at a large Chevy dealer to put it in my 02 LS1 to quieten down the infamous GM piston slap.

The zinc wells must be drying up?

Actually they are taking the zinc out of the street oils because it is hard on cat converters which makes the loss of zinc laden EOS painful for those of us depend on it for break in and hard running security.

I'm sure you know that Shell Rotella oil still has the correct additives for high performance application. At least that's what I heard. I haven't used it however.

Checked with several sources and it is definitely discontinued.
Have been able to buy a couple dozen from on shelf supples.
STP blue seems to have lots of zinc as well.

Just as an FYI...

STP Blue has 1704 ppm Zinc (Multi Purpose Oil Treatment)

STP Red has 2115 ppm Zinc (4 Cylinder Oil Treatment)

Several others listed here...

I was able to dig-up a dozen of the EOS... that will keep me in the short term....

FYI: I think the GM EOS has 8000ppm Zinc just for comparison...

You don't need EOS when you use an oil like Redline.

Really, not even for break in?

How much zinc is in Redline engine oil or are you just making a general observation?
