I can relate to the setup this is probably running, my car also has a n/a converter and th400, made 470 rwhp. A more streetable compression/cam setup to what I am runnign made 505 thru a stick car...
the tq is a spike on the dyno, but trust me, anything that spikes that high is gonna run like a **** at the track, obviously what the guy's worried about with that tranny/converter setup.

Yep, ask anyone on here running a th-400 and they will tell you it eats a ton of power. The car is full weight 3950 and ran a best of a 10.006 on the old motor. car still has a/c , p/s and all the other ammenities

In reality, dyno numbers mean nothing. I care more about track times. If your car went 10.09 ET with a 39XX raceweight, that's incredible. Not sure what differs from the old motor to the new, but if its any better, you're definitely in the 9s.
But yes, a 12 bolt, slicks, steel driveshaft, 3 speed, big gear, and a loose unlocked converter will eat up A LOT of HP.

well the old motor was a 408, and through the th-400 we were right over 400 hp, so this motor is well over the old setup and should run good for us

If you're trying to compare trans to trans, you cant do any type of comparison without locking the converters in both types of trans, and then measuring the power loss.
I wouldnt think a th400 would absorb any where near that much power.
The stall is what will act like the sponge.
