Default LS7/L92 valve weight, LS7 springs

I am wondering if anyone knows the weight of the LS7 and L92 valves.

Any reason why LS7 springs can't be used in L92 heads?

Thank you. Does anyone know the weight of L92 valves?

The LS7 springs are designed for a much taller installed height than the L92.
By the time you get a ton of shims in there you will wind up at coil bind even with a mild cam and still not have enough spring pressure for the L92 valve.
My builder was curious about this, and it's just not worthwhile.
Get some aftermarket springs like Patriot Xtreme duals and be done with it.

Hmmmmm....If the LS7 springs are designed for a taller installed height than L92 springs, why would you have to shim the LS7 spring? Would it not be too short already?

I am not quite ready to abandon this. Does anyone know the installed height recommendations for L92 and LS7 springs?

Even after installing the LS7 spring at 1.800", you would still need more spring pressure to control the heavy L92 intake valve.

Per the posted GM LS7 specs below, max lift is in the area of .590" @ 1.96 installed height, (compared to a typical 1.800 LS1 height)

If installed at 1.800 you will lose .160 available lift, bringing total lift to .430"
and still probably not have enough installed pressure, hence the shims.

Kind of a dead issue, get some Patriot Xtremes and save yourself some time.

  • Valve Springs - Free Length
58.8 mm
2.313 in
  • Valve Springs - Installed Height
49.75 mm
1.959 in
  • Valve Springs - Load - Closed
450 N at 49.75 mm
101 lb at 1.96 in
  • Valve Springs - Load - Open
1380 N at 34.75 mm
310 lb at 1.37 in

After discussing my needs with Richard at West Coast Racing Cylinder heads, I ordered a set of Patriot Gold duals from Richard. What amazing customer service!!! Thanks for everyone's help.

The Intake valves that came out of my West Coast Racing LS3 Stage 3 CNC ported heads are 116 grams (according to the digital scale). They obviously are not LS3 Hollow stem or Manley Solid SS, and heavier than the weight posted above by, OnyxSilveradoSS, for an OEM L92 intake valve @ 108.6 grams. So I'm unsure what kind they are other than, SS heavy valves. I'll be ditching these & getting lighter intake valves, LS3 hollow stem are what I want for my application. I have 8 Inconel exhaust valves ready to go into my heads but there is a decent amount of weight difference between each valve, enough to make you wonder how can one valve weigh up to 2.3 grams more than same valve. I want to get all my valves close to the same weight, under a gram in variation. My scale is dead on & I checked to make sure with a 10g weight.

Inconel LY6's ex. valves varied @ a maximum of 2.3g of difference of the set of 8.

The SS exhaust valves that came out, weigh 90.5g - 90.9g. I like the close variation here.

Intake valve unknown weighed in @ a whopping 116g.

I hope a machine shop can cut some weight of the LY6's cause they are heavier than the SS ex valves. If not I still saved a bunch by going to the LS3 hollow stems. Curious to see what the LS3 hollow stems weigh on the scale when I get them next week. I'll post pictures when I find out for sure.

(O ya, forgot to mention you clowns @ cal speed & performance about the junk work you do and try to pass it off as pro. I've been building my photo album of all the horrible work you guys did. Pictures don't lie, and why would I make it up and waste my time, lol. Just got to cut the intercooler apart to get the metal out of it from your idiot welders you have, that put more metal and trash on the inside of the pipe than on the outside. I have every right to be angry about the problems, I payed you a lot of money to do a good job and gave you more than enough time. I have it all tore down right now. Just wait till I post the pictures. I don't lie or tell stories so don't try to make my trader rating bad, not that I G.A.S. anyways, lol.) O no my trader rating...
