Yeah, I understand list price, just have never seen it for over $3000 so I was curious.

ive voted tall also, due to the fact,we have a ls7 block as stated, and there is guys wanting to swing 4.25+" cranks and long rods, and make larger cubes.
i know this is not for everyone but choices are good, raise the cam is always good, just adds the building time/money for a custom large cube engine,
just my 2 cents.
cheers dave

GM has no money and we'll be lucky to see one standard aluminum LSX block.

At this point, a raised cam, and even a 1/4 inch of added deck height would be fine. Just enough so that we can run the 4.125 cranks with a better piston/rod raito would be good, the raised cam/bigger cam size would be a great improvment too.

It does make you worry to hear about GM asking for gov. cheese. I mean where are the 6 bolt LSX heads? They don't even offer a GMPP intake solution to the current tall deck LSX block.

On the flip/optimistic side we're about to have the ZR1!
So who knows!?!

With the problems that people are having with the iron blocks, I'm curious if the alum block is going to address any of the issues....

i think a pretty small chance. the gmpp 6 bolt heads have supposed to been already released

Standard.
why not just add 2 extra colts per cylinder to the ls2 block for cost savings. and then for the iron crowd add 2 more to the 6.0 iron block as well.

i voted standard

Adding 2 more to the LS3 block would be better only because we'd have a 4.060 bore to start with that one.

Adding a bunch more material to the bottom 1/2 of the block so that it doesn't move around like the lsx block does, changing the water jackets to just a small round hole rather then the oval ones that contour the cylinders to prevent it from cracking like a few lsx blocks have would do a TON for block rigidity as well. Raising the cam up a 1/2 inch would also be a vast improvment, priority oiling for the mains also important, having a provision for oil squirters at the back of the pistons, would also be really nice, like the LS9 block has.

Basicially, that adds up to a new block. I really wish that Donovan would get on board with developing a block... they probably could come up with a really nice piece that would get the job done, and could come in price wise at about where the world block is, but they have the chance to do the 6 bolt setup the right way like GM did, rather then having a stud inside the intake port like world did, which IMO is

I was told at PRI that the aluminum LSX blocks were gonna be a limited production run. 427 to be exact. Didnt make much sense to me but figured i'd throw it out there.

The 427 is the ZL1 Big Block anniversary engine, and yes, they only made 427 of them, dealer list price is $32,000. No, that is not a typo.

That engine has nothing to do with the proposed aluminum LSX engine.

The LSX block is plenty strudy in the bottom end. So much so that when the crankshaft flexes the block does not. It's interesting that there are people out there that make this type of assumption when they see wear or wiping on main bearings. We have tested many configurations of LSX blocks as well as crankshafts. Phil had a post "strongest LSX crankshaft" that I addressed several of our observations. In that post made several recomendations based on our experiance. Phil was suprised that some of the conditions I posted were the same as he was seeing in his engine. Remember the LSX block is a foundation for a high horsepower engine. Be aware that the block needs addtional madifications based on your final use of the block. It's impossible to make a block that fits everyones needs.
Most of the problems that we have seen have been from inexperience when building a high horsepower small blocks.
Read some of the posts on that tread. You have Joe from Six Speeds Inc as well as Erik K adding his opinions.
As far as the cracking I need to see pictures if you have them. I am not calling BS but I need proof. I agree in my opinion I would like to see a closed deck on any block that use in a high horsepower application. To justify these type of changes I need DATA. Not rumor or hearsay. Give me DATA. Pictures and all the details.

I'll post a link to that thread in a few minutes so I don't lose this post

Here is the post https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iv-internal-engine/984913-who-makes-strongest-lsx-crank.html

Thanks

Robin
