l86 crankshaft in l83
l86 crankshaft in l83 I am looking into putting a l86 crankshaft into my l83. I know they are the same stroke. The only difference i can find is the 6.2 crank is forged and the 5.3 crank is not. Has anyone looked into this or done it? Its for my 2017 Silverado. I have a Whipple on it now and will be adding forged pistons, rods, Frankenstein ported heads, custom cam and more boost. I dont know if it is needed but it looks like they are pretty cheap on gm parts direct. Its my daily driver and one benefit would be i can have the rotating assembly balanced before i take my current motor apart. So when its time i can just pull my motor and install the new parts and put it back in.

I have not done anything with it really. Just read up a little. From what I have found it will go in but it requires a different flex plate. Has the same stroke and bearing journal sizes.
I had no idea the crank was forged. Just googled and gm's website says it is. On all cylinders says so as well, both of those places are trustworthy.
That's crazy. And awesome. But weird. I thought they only did forged cranks in OE boosted applications.

Yeah saw the same thing about the L83 crank yesterday when I went looking.
Just gonna add this to another reason to do a L86 swap in my truck. Not that I need a forged crank but it will make me feel special to have one lol
