Who went on non street tires last year?
I am going to be making the trip from milwaukee to florida this year, and don't want to go on street tires and stock rims, but my prostars and moroso ds-2/27in et streets. everyone is saying it's a bad idea, even if i put on the new mt drag radials. just want to see if anyone made the whole trip last year on a non street tire setup.

Well, if you were talking like some nitto drag radials, then I would say no problem. i went on a 2700 mile trip last year (the first leg of the Power Tour from Ft. Worth to St Louis then down to Florida and back to Texas) on some 315-35-17 nitto drag radials. I wouldn't necessarily be concerned about the rear slicks, as I saw a ton of older cars pimpin some slicks. But I would be concerned about the front runners. There were some places where some major pot holes and what-not were and I would be concerned about a rim getting bent.
I guess if you do go on slicks/skinnies, just be careful.

Last year we got some pretty heavy rain on the last 2 days of the tour. Alot of the guys who were on "non street tires" didn't make it the entire way and some of them took their cars home on tow trucks Made me sick to my stomach when I saw the yellow Mach one eat the rail in Chicago. I'm not sure which tires he was on, but some of the areas we drove through definately were not the best. We drove the tour on my 315 Drag Radials and ran into a few slick spots myself. I definately would not recommend driving on slicks/skinnies!!

You are definitely not just running in a straight line on the PT. Not a good idea for steering, handling, braking, AND road condition reasons.
Some kid in a LS1 T/A driving on bald street tires lost it, went in the ditch, and busted up the car last year too.
Be safe. Not worth wrecking your ride.

Yeah, that was a quick $320 wasn't it.. 3000 miles and a new set of 315/60 drag radials down the drain.. I'll do it again though..
