Hello!

Hello!
Hi, just letting ya know who I am. First of all, I'm not here to flame or anything, I do own a 2000 atlantic blue mustang cough v6 cough. I've got a couple mods on it, but I'm never gonna have the power I'm looking for w/o blowing some serious bucks, and I might as well get a better car, and that's why I'm here! Ya see, I'm 16 and I couldn't start out w/ a V8 since that's just crazy and I would probably die. Maybe in a year or so though, I might be getting another car. My uncle is a car dealer so I get REALLY good prices. I'm thinking either a black or sunset orange 2000+ trans am, definitely 6-speed. I have a few questions...I know nothing about these really, so bear with me. First, are these good color choices? Give me opinions, I wanna know what everyone thinks. Does anyone have any maintenance problems with these? From all my ford buddies, GM isn't quite as good quality-wise. Well I have a lot of questions, but can't remember them all. Just tell me some basics I should know.

Re: Hello!
Sunset Orange is definitely a nice choice! Only available in 2001 and 2002 though. Black was available every year, and much more common. Finding a used Sunset Orange one will be tougher.

Re: Hello!
My last car was a V6--GET A V8!! Believe me, after a month or so, you'll be like can't I get more power out of this thing! You will be SOOOO much happier with the V8! As for you Ford buddies trashing GM, of course they're gonna trash GM, that's the nature of the beast. No issues that I know of that can't be easily cleared up (ie PCV Mod).
As for color--I say go black!!!

Re: Hello!
I think you should steer clear from F-Bodies if you're looking into getting a car in a year or so. The Pontiac GTO just came out and it uses the same engine. The fit & finish of those cars is great and also, they come with independent rear suspension.
Anywho, good luck with whatever you choose!

I wouldn't get a new GTO, that's too expensive. I remembered a question.......What body changes occurred from 2000 on? Like are there any major hood or ground effects changes that pontiac made? I'm leaning more and more towards black, w/ a nice set of chrome wheels (drool).

Edmunds.com just quoted them at the same horsepower. I don't think that's right, but I could be wrong.

Re: Hello!
Welcome!! I give you credit for having a very realistic outlook on where you are in life and what you can afford. I've had Camaro's all my life and abosulte love the cars. I'd like to pass some words of wisdom on to you that my dad passed on to me when I was your age...."If you drive like a sport, you will pay like a sport". And pay you will in car parts (because you will break things when you start modifying the car" but also in insurance premiums.

Re: Hello!
I've put cold air intake, reverse glow guages, and some other slightly technical stuff on my mustang, and so far I haven't broken anything I've come close a few times, and I bet if I continue modding it I will. At first I thought I could just make the sixer fast, then I realized that by that time I could just buy a V8, so here I am. I've only had my license for 28 days, lol, and haven't gotten a ticket yet. I don't drive too fast, never more than 10 over most of the time, and if I want to go faster I only do that when I'm 100% sure there are no cops around. Thanks for the advice, and once again, what's the difference between a formula and a regular T/A?

Re: Hello!
A Formula has the base cars body arrangements with the suspension upgrades, powerplant, transmission, nad wheels of the Trans Am. It is one hell of a sleeper. The Trans Am has a different nose, wing treatment, and all of the interior upgrades. The Ram Air option adds 17 inch wheels, 275 section width tires, better exhaust, the bada$$ hood, and potentially a couple of other luxury items. The exhaust isn't a big deal, you will change it anyway. That is a fairly simple summation.

and yes I realize this is a LS-1 based site, but I just can't help myself.
IAN101 , trust me on this, get the LS-1 and wax your Ford buddies, unless you can afford an '03 Cobra! I have owned nothing but Fords, and one RX-7, and know that you will beat the hell out of most Fords out there if you can drive, even the mildly modded ones. Just beware of the '87 to '93's, they can be stealthy about how fast they really are.
Good Luck and let us see some pics when you get it!
P.S. Get the orange one!

Black cars do look awesome just as the sun sets though! And at night too.
But in bright sun, you can see every flaw in a black car.

Re: Hello!
I have a black one, love it when it's clean hate it when it's dirty... and driving it around it doens't stay clean long....
The SOM (Sunset Orange Metallic) is an AWESOME color... you need to see it in person to see how cool it looks... If I had to do it over I'd buy a SOM one

Re: Hello!
Avoid black, it always looks dirty, might as well take a piece of 100 grit and swirl it up the day you buy it.

Re: Hello!
Both of mine are black and I've been to keep them clean since the day they were brought home. Trust me, save yourself the sweat and heartache and get the SOM At least that color will not show every single little scratch
Good luck, and enjoy your new ride --Nonetheless, be careful with your new car and learn all of its characteristics before you start hammering it. I say this because that is a big step up in HP/TQ from your V-6. Try to drive safely

Re: Hello!
If I do get a trans am (still deciding) it would be in about a year. I've only had my license for a month, so I need some more time on the sixer before I step up to a T/A. It will be hard finding SOM, but I'll do my best
