Default A Clear winner? Lid vs Volant

I been racking my brain between the volant CAI or just a lid.

I have heard people pull a couple ponies more with the volant but of course the cost is nearly double a lid. I like the look of the volant but nearly double the price.

I have noticed you dont see alot of volants for sale in the classifieds. Lids are a pretty common thing.

Both serve the same common purpose. more air flow.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i like the looks of a volant too...not to mention the box that seals against the hood! i have a fipk too...just cause it came on the car...and ive logged iat's and theyre IDENTICAL to outside temps...unless the car isnt running and restart it...then they're high....

i want to build a box for my fipk...

i would vote lid tho. theyre cheap and all over the place!!

^^That is one sexy engine bay. OP If you can get a lid to fit right I would go with that, I cant imagine the volant gives you enough power to justify double the cost........although I have been wrong before.

I don't care for the appearance of the Volant, personally. I would always pick the lid.

You probably don't see as many used Volants for sale because not nearly as many are sold new as the lids.

Now you talking. Either chris1313 ram air or FAST Toys Ram Air and a sealed lid. I believe chris1313's is a little better than the FTRA I've got. But you buy something new and next week something always comes out thats better.

I personally don't have a 4th Gen but, a few friends do. They've had good results just trimming the underside of the lid and adding K&N filter. I would think doing this will get you in the ball park of an aftermarket lid on the cheap. Unless you want the look of the lid.

Not at all really. The stock lid has two different restrictions; the silencer and the thin oval neck. Going to an aftermarket lid improves horsepower by removing those issues.

The only thing you can do to get any of the gains of an aftermarket lid, while using a stock lid, is to delete the silencer. But even then, the air flow path to the throttle body is not going to be as good as an aftermarket lid.

I drive it at least a couple of times per week. On Fridays to my office and almost every Sunday dependent on the weather.

what dont you like about it?

Mine came with one when I bought it. I bought a stock lid, ect and put it back on just to see if I'd like it. Throttle response was definatly reduced.

well for one it costs quite a bit more than the lids. i'd like to get a lid, and run sealed air intake ducts from the 2 holes in the camaro grill to the bottom of the lid. i forgot what it's called but i've seen pictures on here and people have had excellent results. i believe the fipk would net higher iat's as well since it's getting air straight from the engine bay. i like the look of the k&n and haven't had any problems from it, but would just go a different route if i haven't had already spent the money on it.
