Does an LS2 GTO make more power or a C5 z06? I was reading that a c5 z06 makes less than a LS2 gto? is that right?

Well, the early C5 Z06's were rated at 385hp, while the 03/04 Z06's were rated at 405hp. LS2 GTO's were rated at 400. About the same crank power from both cars but the Z06 is the faster car hands down.

ive read claims of c5z06s(405 HP version) making 360ish stock on a dynojet. my GTO made 365/361 with a catback,CAI and tune on a dynojet.

The ls2 has a broader power band the the ls6, but in the end they will both put out just about the same on an engine dyno.

But if you compare an LS2 gto with a c5z on the dyno, the vette will put down considerably more rwhp then the gto simply due to the more efficient drivetrain meaning less loss to the wheels.

So the engines make the same amount of power, albeit at different rpms, but when it comes down to putting the power to the ground it will be the vette coming out the winner.

^^This.

I'm sorry to say, but common sense dictates. Although goats can be made fast and have considerable numbers, it is well known they are lushes in stock form when it comes to preforming, very disappointing.

They both make about the same power... '01 Z06's make 385 crank, and the 02-04's make 405 at the crank.

The C5 Z's are a LOT lighter though.

car vs car the z06 will destroy it, however engine vs engine the ls2 has more power potential cause of the bigger cubes. it uses the same heads as a ls6 and also the same cam as the early 385hp z06 engines, it runs a smaller cam than the ls6 engine to keep the hp at the same lvl.

Know its a few month old thread but just thought Id toss this in here....

2001 Z06 with just CAI & Borla CB running around 215*... 367/364, That same day I ran my buddies 450RWHP 436RWTQ GTO and put about 4 cars on him and still pulling ... My Z06 runs circles around my GTO, The Z06 puts down more hp then a LS2 GTO by a good 15whp sometimes more do to less drivetrain loss... Most LS2 GTO's put down around 345rwhp...

As it's been said here, the C5Z is faster and puts out a bit more power to the wheels than an LS2 GTO. The Z06 in it's day was the most complete car by GM in regards to raw performance. The GTO was meant to be a bit of an easier ride with the IRS and other suspension differences. In depth specs on both cars can be seen here:

gotta love Wikipedia:

Starting with the 2002 model year, the LS6 engine was uprated to 405 horsepower (302 kW) by means of a larger volume air intake, stiffer valve springs, lighter sodium filled valves, more aggressive cam phasing and lift, revised pistons, and revised block. While Chevrolet officially claimed that the ultimate power output of the LS6 was 405 horsepower (302 kW), many dynamometer tests have shown that Chevrolet underrated the engine by 20 hp (15 kW), giving it an actual total of 425 horsepower (317 kW).[2]Factory performance figures for the 405 hp (302 kW) version of the Z06 give an acceleration time from 0-60 mph as 3.9 seconds. While highly debatable, owner-drivers have recorded quarter-mile times in the 11.7 - 11.9 seconds. The lowest elapsed time reported in a 405 hp (302 kW) Z06 of 11.783 seconds at 116.90 mph seconds was recorded by Jarrod Cunningham at Houston Raceway Park on January 10, 2004. GM High Tech and Performance Magazine recorded 1/4 mile times of 11.97 seconds at 118.80 mph in their October 2004 issues for a 2004 Z06. Car and Driver recorded 1/4 mile times of 12.4 seconds for the 405 hp (302 kW) Z06 and 12.7 seconds for the 385 hp (287 kW) Z06 In their December 2002 issue.

Hope this helped..
