Integrity- MTI, Norris Motorsports
As many here know and alot of you dont. I bought my 422 stroker used from a gentlemen on LS1Tech. I leave his name out unless he wants it to be known. The motor was a year old and had approx 200 miles on it since it was purchased new from Motorsports Technologies (MTI) out of Houston TX. I purchase the motor based on its past performance and the integrity of MTI and the gentlemen on LS1Tech. One day after the installing the motor and dynoing it one of the heads dropped a seat, which shattered, this caused extensive damage to both heads and the pistons. I bought the motor knowing full well that I would be taking a chance and for all intent purposes there was no warranty.
The car was towed to Norris Motorsports (Orlando FL)where and Mike and Gary determined that the seat had "fallen" out. If you are familiar with heads you know that seats are not supposed to fall out, over reving the motor and hammering the motor does not cause seats to fail. The issue was with the head. Mike and Gary made a excellent diagoses and represented me to MTI with a explanation.
The heads were shipped to MTI first and the block was shipped at a later date.
MTI inspected the heads and did me better then I expected, they stood behind the heads and replaced them. Upon inspection of the block they are replacing the pistons and repairing any damage to the block. They are putting the motor togather and sending it back to Norris for install.
Now for the moral of the story. There are alot of companies you can spend your hard earned dollars with in the LS1 world. There are damn few out there that will back up a race type setup when something fails or if your not happy. Call it luck or picking the right people. The good companies like Norris and MTI may not be the least expensive but when you have a serious problem and you ask them to go to "bat" for you they do because they have the reputation. Jayson at MTI is one of the most professional people I have spoken to in a long time, and I deal with thousand of companies each year. He understands his product and has integrity and is as fair of a person as you can ask for. When the car failed Gary from Norris along with Tim Sloper (C&S Performance) were up there working on the car on SUNDAY to determine the cause of the failure.
People, it is rare to find companies that will help you like this. Neither is, and or was under any obligation to do anything other then put me in the line of other customers that they have. Both moved me to head of the line.
Now you know where my money is spent for my mods. I recommend both companies. Better to purchase something for $20,000 once and have them back it up when it fails rather then buy something for $10,000 and have it perform crappy and replace it twice with and fight with the company your bought it from.
People spend it wisely. I did.

Thats awesome! I had a rod fail/snap (suspected material issue) and it knocked a huge hole in the side of my new MTI 434ci setup. Jayson and the guys at MTI have replaced the entire engine at no cost to me. That warranty they have on their installed racing engines is beyond exceptional.

Re: Integrity- MTI, Norris Motorsports
Mr. Moderator, would you be so kind as to sticky this for a couple of days. With all the trashing going around it would be nice to see the people who do good work get a nice post.
Thank you
Jeff

Hey Jeff, we don't have a sticky function with our software, but I'm sure this one will get some good coverage. When you read the title of the thread, you wonder if its going to be a slam-fest or a good report, lol. Controversy attracts attention!
How many of you entered this thread wondering the same thing?
C5, my rod was a Manley rod that failed.

Re: Integrity- MTI, Norris Motorsports
I saw who posted it so I figured it would be a positive thread.
I have not spent very much with MTI, I think I have bought an air lid and a timing chain from them, but I have always been very impressed with their warranty and the fact that they are pretty decisive about taking care of something.

Re: Integrity- MTI, Norris Motorsports
That's great to hear and i am very pleased to hear that MTI stood behind their engine components 100% and that you will be back up running again soon. :cheers
I certainly am not surprised to hear this and that is the exact reason that I choose Jayson (and yes he is a true professional) and MTI to build, install and tune my 427 Ironblock Z07 Stroker, for my 98 Vette Roadster, which is being installed and tuned at this very moment as we speak and should be ready to dyno and delivery back home to Chicago for me any day now!
Here's to Jayson, MTI and MTI entire crew!
It was because of their fantastic knowledge and reputation and of course their warranty, that i gave them my business and i'm sure they won't let me down either.

Congrats on your good fortune with getting things squared away. After reading this post I will most likely be getting my heads and cam from MTI when its time for me to buy them

I don't have a single bad thing to say about MTI or their staff or products. Jayson has always done the right thing for me no matter what the circumstances and is a man of his word.

I can ditto this on MTI standing behind their warranties.
Feb a year ago when I first got the 422 from them, things were fine at first, and then I started burning coolant after a few weeks. I posted about this online, and before I could even call MTI about it, Jayson posted right back that it sounded like a dropped sleeve and to bring the car in. That was in this thread https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...;f=41;t=003096 I did bring it in, and they replaced the whole motor, no questions asked. Very impressive!!
Yes - I do pay a little price premium to them, as I could find cheaper on some things. Is the price premium worth it? Yup. Do they still get my business? Yup - my car is at their shop right now with the heads off for a *slightly* more radical cam setup.
MTI like any other shop will sometimes have issues - but they have unquestioned integrity, stand behind their work, and continually try to improve where they are weak. And the cars they put out flat-out haul it.

Re: Integrity- MTI, Norris Motorsports
I have to agree, Norris is about as standup as one can get when it comes to standing behind his work. I'm glad you are getting your issues worked out, and that everything will turn out in the end.
Congrats to Norris and MTI for their hard work!

I have to give props to Norris... I bash him pretty hard on our club board, but Ive seen nothing but quality work from that shop. I would recommend anyone to his shop.

Re: Integrity- MTI, Norris Motorsports
I was just at Mike Norris' shop last week to get my car tuned after the heads/cam. There was a little pinging so he told me to dring it to him.
His shop spent a number of hours getting rid of the pinging and even picking some some nice HP.
And he didn't charge me a cent for the dyno tuning!!!
Mike is a class act!!!!

Re: Integrity- MTI, Norris Motorsports
That is why MTI is so successful...An honest and dedicated owner. Norris Motorsports seems to be cut from the same stone.
