Default brake pad opinions

i was referred to monsterpartsonline.com to get my pads - part numbers 19108021 for front and 19108022 for rear - GM/AC Delco pads.... has anyone ever bought pads from here before?

i just bought my car used (about 2 months ago) with 42k miles on it, and the pads i have now are driving me CRAZY - they're squeaking like mad, and i'm getting a lot of brake dust, so i'm sure the dealership just threw on some cheap crappy pads.... so any opinions??? best pads to go with/websites to buy from/etc....

thanks!

Both brands of ceramics I have tried squeek. Raybestos pro series(twice) and Auto zone Duralast . If you dont want noise stay away from ceramic. Both sets create very minimal dusting at a cost of your sanity.

Brake squeal is cause by either the pads being low and built in warning tabs rubbing against rotor or vibration of pads in calipers. The ceramic OEM pads and the ceramic replacements I got at Advance Auto had a thin rubber type backing on pads. There is also a product made by several companies you can use, called Brake Quiet or Disk Quiet etc. It is usually a red or blue tacky substance that is sprayed or brushed onto back of pads to stop the vibration and squealling. It pretty much stops the pad from vibrating in the caliper. it acts as a glue and padding. It does not cause soft brakes though.

whatever you do, do not buy OEM pads. They are the worst and do not last more than a year. I replaced my OEM pads with akebono pads and replaced the OEM rotors with the pepboys special ($91/ea). I spent $300 total and that set up is still running great. Low dust and perfectly silent.

I used the CRC disc brake quiet red stuff also and the rotors were new. I still had no luck. I envy you. I have probably done over 50 brake jobs in my life, this is the only car that ever made noise. Leaves me foul just thinking about it. The factory brakes made zero noise, but I would have to wipe the rims down daily from dusting.

Maybe I am lucky, but my 07 Monte SS was due for state inspection in March and I had 60,000 on her already, so I decided to swap in new brake pads to be sure they were good. The OEM pads still had at least 60% pad left, no where near worn out. They had always been quiet and clean. I decide to put in the new pads anyway (Advance Auto Premiun ceramic) since I had wheels off and calipers folded back. Anyway, new pads are fine, good performance, no noise. However I do see some black on the wheels I did not have with OEM pads. Oh, and my rotors are still good, no bad grooves, no pulsing, very little wear. It must be the parachute and anchor I use to stop with that saves the brakes lolol

I’ve got the Duralast ceramic from Auto Zone. No dust no squeak. Pulled over 1g on a slight down hill emergency break from 75 mph. When I installed them I coated the back side with some anti squeak.

2005-2007 GXPs:

Delco ceramics (sold in pairs IIRC):

Front P/N: 19108021
Rear P/N: 19108022

And yes, get them from monsterpartsonline.com. If you do find them cheaper on another GM parts site, contact Patrick (owner) and he will match or lower them. No squeaks and very minimal brake dust. I used to loathe cleaning those wheels all the time.

And if you're sick of the visible rust from the rotors, you can go with the Raybestos:

2006 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GXP Rotor{s} - 2005-2007 really:

Front rotor P/N: 580381 - $62.79 (each)
Rear rotor P/N: 580365 - $63.79 (each)

Any GXP owner who has used the Delco ceramics will concur.

Same here. I got the Duralast ceramics with new rotors. Pads are lifetime and the rotors are under warranty for 2yrs. From time of purchase.
Absolutely, no brake dust and no squeals.
Everything up front was about 220.00

I will never run anything but Akebono ACT ceramics on this car. I have Morse ceramics on my 97' GTP and they don't compare to the Akebono's.

I am running OEM front rotors again, and with 14k miles on them since changin to the ACT pads I have no dust, no grooving of the rotors, and no warping. My DIC currently shows a 1.19 G deceleration.

And that's still more expensive than going with the ACDelco ceramics + the Raybestos vented, cross drilled, and painted (rust prevention) rotors.

Total front axle price before discounts: $214.92.

No squeaks, no brake dust.

Does anyone know the cheapest, brand name, slotted rotors with ceramic pads option for all 4 corners? Just curious.

What kind of warranty? I used my military discount and paid 185.00. I was just posting the reg price. On a side note my rotors have slight rust on the lug area. Nothing a little paint wouldn't cure. All in All I'm happy with my purchases.
