Default Running rough after a rain storm

My fathers GXP is running pretty bad and has developed a CEL. Along with the CEL, the motor is running rough and the idle is around 500rpms.

This happened after he was stuck driving all the way from work in a massive rain storm and got the pcm (is that it?) that's located in the airbox.....any suggestions?

Change the air filter if it's paper or clean it. What's the cel code?

I only get a cel when I run less than premium gas. Might just be bad gas and not rain related if it's a knock code.

How can I check codes without a scanner? He mentioned this happened to him before when he went thru another freak storm a month or so ago. After a few driving cycles it went away. The car ran 110% yesterday before the rain.

Take it by advance/auto zone and have them read the code. Might might have zapped the MAF or something. A code would be really helpful.

Funny guy, I'll make sure we import one from Alabama.

Anyway, I drove the car to work this morning and the idle seems to be back to normal. CEL still there.

CEL won't go away right away, even if the problem has gone away. Go get it scanned.

I disconected the battery and the CEL went away after I fired it up but that's done nothing as the bad idle is still there.

I put a lot of miles on mine and I basically only run 87. I've never had any issues with running rough or knocking. What mods do you have?

Back to the OP... So you didn't get the code checked? Has it come back? Did you check the filter? Running rough could be many different root causes. Can you provide any more information?

There's not much we can do without the code it's throwing.

I disconnected the battery for about 45 minutes and started it back up and it seems to be fine. Yesterday when this happened the remote starter wouldn't work either. Now everything works. No cel, no low idle, and remote works too.

The remote start wouldn't work because it had a code...

So everything is fine? Car is all good?

you should have scanned the car before you did that just to see what code it was.

Yeah it is impossible to diagnose without that code. It could have been a fluke, but if you get it again, grab that code.

Update- Back to the original cars still appears to be in limp mode and the cel is back. Buddy is coming over in an hour to scan her for me.
