Default 110 octane without a tune

Has anyone fill up with 110 oct? There is a 110 pump here that I am thinking about filling up with just for ***** and giggles. Wondering if anyone has a basic review of the difference.

Well, with a stock tune, you'll have no knock-retard. Hypothetically, the car should be as fast as it will go, however, it could also be that 110 is too much. Meaning, the detonation resistance could be too high for our motors, though I don't know for sure.

I'd like to see 06MonteSS or JDMC5 weigh in on this topic.

Don't think it'd be a good idea.

are you sure that it's UNLEADED??? you do not want to run leaded racing gas - you'll kill your 02 sensors and catalytic converter...

as long as it's unleaded, you'll be fine... your car will run better on it..

I know I have a pump about 20 min. from my house, that is 100 octane unleaded Sunoco GT100... and my car LOVES that stuff... but at $8+ a gallon, I don't use it that often, hahaha...

BUT, you won't be getting the full/true potential from it, since your timing (spark advance) table won't be setup for the higher octane... you could run more timing (up to a point) for that higher octane gas and get even more giddy-up...

but, there comes a point at which, going with too much timing, actually kills your performance... even if you have no KR... just because you can run with a certain amount of timing with no KR, doesn't mean that you're making the most hp/tq with that setting...

Its a conoco pump and I am unsure if its unleaded or not. Ill check tomorrow. Its like 650 a gallon and it is 110 octane. So my car will run better with it as long as its unleaded. It will produce a little more power but not much because I'm not tuned to it. Am I tracking correctly?

Conoco/Philips is owned by Marc Nelson Oil Products, Inc... and on their site, they state that their 110 octane gas (which is labeled as VP Racing), is LEADED gas...

so make sure you check and find out for sure before putting any of that 110 in your tank!!

usually, from what I'VE seen, anything higher than 104 octane, tends to be leaded...

As Lew said, 110 is usually leaded fuel.

I agree mostly with what Lew said. I would like to add that sometimes higher octane race fuel has a different stoich ratio than regular pump gas. With stock timing curves Id be surprised to see a gain more than a few hp with the 110, every engine is different though. By nature the higher octane is going to want more advance for max power. All things optimum, I wouldn't expect more than a 10hp gain over premium. Not worth the price tag.

yep yep...

yeah, he'll notice a difference, but it's not going to be a whole lot without being tuned specifically for it....

and yeah, the **** is EXPENSIVE...

price difference to performance difference, I don't thinks is worth the extra money for the fuel... put the money on the side for a tune

If you want a power gain switch to E85 and get it tuned.

However the difference between 87 and 91or 92 is a big difference. Or so it seems.
