Default New 5.3L DOD GM Cars

What does everyone think about the new 5.3L Displacement On Demand 2006 Imapala SS, Monte Carlo SS, and Grand Prix GXP? Any recommendations towards one or the other? I was wondering if anyone has any pics of their Monte SS or Impala SS cars? Thanks!

i like the monte carlo the best, the pontiac is kinda ugly, although it is a pretty sexy ugly, however that works. i'd only take a monte in black though. and even though the impala and monte look the same i get the impression that the impala has lost some muscle compared to the monte carlo when i look at both of them. i think the best track time on this site goes to the pontiac however.

Here is my Take so far on these vehicles.

Pontiac GXP: Best looking outside. VERY ugly interior. If Pontiac would change the lighting from that ugle *** red to blue/green and get rid of the door panels, the car would be a hit for me. Has some cool options that the other don't. Like the paddle shift.

Impala SS: Great looking interior. Best of them all IMO. Very comfortable to drive on any type of legnth. (drove one from Texas to Chicago and back.) Exterior is Ho-hum looking. Seems too weak from the front. Good Sleeper if you get rid of the SS badges. Would **** off some mustange owner.

Monte Carlo SS: Good looking exterior and a good looking interior. Too bad it's only a 2 door, but that is a plus to some people. This car seems to be the most rounded of the choices for me.

I'm leaning towards the Impala mostly because I want a 4 door. The Monte Carlo is my 2nd choice followed by the GXP. I want the GXP due to the exterior styling, but the interior is too damn ugly for me.

I drove an ss impala today for about 400 miles absolutely awesome. Drives really nice and has very nice power to boot. It feels like there is a lot of potential there between the intake and exhaust.

The GXP looks great! But I'm liking the idea of the Monte SS...I like the 2 door part. I drove an Impala SS and it was one of the most comfortable rides I've ever been in. Anyone have pics of the Monte SS interior?

the gxp's are nice especially for the pretty decent price tag....the monte carlo this year kind of put it out in the open..i dont understand why they changed the headlights to look like a cobalt??other than that its a nice car...the impalas are really nice..as everyone else says power and comfort are a big plus..the ss isnt too shabby either

I haven't riden in a Monte Carlo. How is the back seat area? Is there a decint amount of room or not really. From the pictures of the outside, it looks like the head room is a bit short.

All in all, I like what GM has done with these cars. Priced just right and they are very comfortable. Wish GM would have started doing this 5 years ago.

Very proud to have these additions to the GM family! Wish GM had these cars 5 years ago!

I think the gas mileage rating is 18/28 (correction on your 20). It will obviously depend on your city to highway ratio. I have a very high city type ratio (typically 10 mile drive to office from home; 2 stop signs and 4 red lights; very hilly). If I behave (light pedal pressure; stay below 65), I can achieve 18mpg. More normal driving for me (more fun with the pedal and V8 sounds ; below 80), I am around 16.5 mpg. However, my wife was jetting around today because I had taken her vehicle in for service (she has only driven the car twice) and knocked down a wonderful 14.4 mpg . I taught her how to drive. On trips, I will vary between 25 mpg (hilly around here and running ~70) to around 22 mpg @ 80 - 90. If you can stay around 60 or so on flat terrain, I'm guessing you could achieve 28 or so. The car is so smooth and capable, even 100 seems very normal.

In other words, this car is capable of delivering whatever you would like. I have been more successful at some things with this car, gas mileage is not one of them.

That's good information. I mostly drive highway...about 40 miles each way to work. I have an 04 Grand Prix GT2 right now and I'm getting an average of 29 when I cruise around 70...when I have a heavy foot it's more around 22-25. That's good info though. I appreciate it.

I would say the Monte rims are off the cobalt ! The rims on the 04-05 monte lookes way nicer.

yeah...the rims are kinda different...not sure how I feel about those. But all in all the car is amazing. You could get some nice custom rims though

Yeah, I have an 04 GP right now, and the HUD is awesome! Saved me from so many tickets! Haha! I went and looked at an 06 Monte and the guy at the dealership told me "I can't get in it until the day I want to buy it." I was pretty pissed...but oh well, go somewhere else. It's between the GXP and the Monte. But I'm thinking the Monte...does anyone have pics of the Imapala SS?

I think the montes look great minus the rims...there was a guy in my hometown that had a 06 blue monte SS with differnt rims on it and it looked amazing...Id like to see pictures of these cars with different rims if anyone has any.

Overall I have to agree. The GXP looks the best and
is the fastest. The monte next and then the IMP SS
The IMP just looks dull and boring even with the big
wheels
