Thumbs up Edelbrock heads for 5.3l engines

We're guaging interest in providing a CNC ported Edelbrock head for the 5.3l engines. Some of the specs are 2.00"/1.57" valve sizes, 200cc/81cc runner sizes. The chamber sizes will end up at 58-60cc. Peak airflow will be around 275-280cfm on the intake ports and 210cfm on the exhaust ports. The chambers are designed to fit the smaller 3.780" bore diameters. We feel these heads will make a nice performance increase and add durability especially for FI applications. The heads are made with a thick deck for a better head gasket seal than the factory heads. We're about a month away from having heads machined and ready for sale. Pricing hasn't been established yet, but my guess is that it will range from $1950.00-$2150.00 depenging on spring choice.
Feel free to PM or call us with any questions.

We're compliling flow data on the 243 heads on a 3.780" bore. I'll post comparisons when the testing is done. Runner cross sections will be a bit smaller than the LS6 intake ports and the exhaust ports should show better average flow than the 243 heads.

Again... were gonna have to put cams in these things to really see the bennefit from a higher flow set of heads... there might be the initial increase But witha .480" lift stock cam.... these heads I feel would be a moot point other than maybe 20 hp. I guess im not willing to spend 2 grand on 20 hp... Maybe 40+ hp you would see with adition ofa cam that will accent these heads.

what he said
heads are cool and all, but having a cam that is a bit on the anemic side of the gm parts world {i think the cobalt has more aggressive cams}

i can see a good gain from heads AND cam, but like he said, dropping 2k on heads for 20 hp isn't worth it.

No interest from me, I would rather spend (a lot) less cash on having the 243 castings worked over if I ever needed it. The engine seems to be cam limited at the present time and I would bet the intake/exhaust bottleneck would be next, heads would be the very last thing I would do on this car. No point in touching them unless you wanted to wring out every single pony possible after swapping cams (and why do so in a front driver? If you want max performance, start with a different platform.)

No thanks - wouldn't drop $2K in the MCSS, especially on the heads.

Platform is stout, but like the guys said, we need a non DoD cam.

Are you smoking crack?????? Mybe used. FWIW, these are the same cores as the castings for a f-body. Just optimized for a smaller bore.

In my constant need for more HP I had asked a well known speed shop in my area about head work. There response........ you need a real cam!! all the head work in the world would not help. give me heads and a new cam and you can count me in. 2K for 20hp??

I disagree, by just doing heads you will gain power. Not really that much, probably 20 hp, but you will gain power. A cam will really let them shine though.
