LS4 longevity, how long will it last
Hello,
I'm contemplating trading my 2002 Camaro SS (only 5300 miles) and my 2000 Pontiac GA GT for a brand new 2006 Impala SS.......yes, i know, but, i'm engaged and in the process of planning a wedding. I really dont want to, but, I have a feeling that eventually, I'll have to sell the SS. I figured that the Impala is the best of both worlds. Anyways, i'm trying to do research on this car and i'm curious to get some opinions as to what you think the longevity of these LS4 cars will be. I ask mostly because of all the computer controlled sensors etc. that are associated with the engine, especially with the DOD and Active Fuel Management that comes with the engine. Does anyone foresee this as being a detriment to the overall longevity of the motor? anything else that you think might make it croak after 75-100k miles? I know that GM does EXTENSIVE testing on these engines/cars but, the only true test is you, the daily user of them.
thank you for your input

thats why i didnt buy this car. fwd cars have crappy trannies. if this car was rwd and had a 4L65 or 4L80 with hte 5.3 i wouldnt have leased it, i would have bought it. with seeing all hte issues with 4t65 transmissions, its way to risky to own one of em. lol at least to me, cuz i beat on my cars

thank you everyone for you opinions, it helps....
SidewaysLS4- Murphy's Law usually dictates that bad things happen the day after the warrantee expires......unfortunately
BigMikeGXP- i'm getting married, so, NO mods for me....time to grow up, i guess I know the LSx-type engines are very reliable, but, since this is new, i was curious
Mike's 01WS6- thank you, thats an opinion that i was looking for
Area47- yeah, i'm aware that it comes with the territory, but, since the engine is new to this car, i was just curious if any bugs found wiggled their way out from under the hood yet.
Kissmyss03- i'm gonna go high on the asking price so it won't sell and i'll have to keep it.......it's all part of my master plan
thanks again everyone for your help

Good luck on the sale. I sold my 98 Z28 for the Impala SS and I have no regrets whatsoever..Granted I did give up performance for the SS. But for the ride and fuel economy, plus the horsepower, I think there is really nothing that compares to the Impala SS for the price.

ditch the broad and keep the cars. I had 130,000 miles on my 2000 Monte when I sold it had no problems with the tranny or the motor. I don't know if there is a big difference with the new ones having 8s.

the only bugs that i can see on mine, is the occasional squeak from the belt. tensioner like noise.
tranny likes to be over 110 degrees before it wants to shift right. brakes squeak, but you only need to worry about this if you have a gxp.
aside from this. not one hiccup to date

only if you buy a 2007 model... not a 2006 model as indicated in original post...

If you're looking to buy and mod heavily, you may want to reconsider a 2007+
