Default 06 Impala Ss Recall Done!

Well, brought my car in to the dealer yesterday to have the power steering hose recall done. I never would of realized it was such an involved job. I was told that the job took the mechanic 5 hours to complete. Apparently the V8 is such a tight fit in there that he had to lower the engine cradle to change the hose. This of course meant that a front wheel alignment was necessary as well. All seems fine afterwards, but thats not going to stop me from taking a look underneath and make sure all is as it should be. Lots of mechanics take shortcuts and not put things back in there clips or brackets...I hate that!

On another note....while that car was in I had them do a load test on the battery. As most of you know that some of our cars are having trouble starting if it's really cold out or the car sits in the garage unused for 1-2 weeks. They said the load test showed that the battery was good. But he did say that it was low. Now, I drove the car over an hour to the dealer near my work....you'd think that the battery should be fully charged by then. Anyway..they put the battery on charge for me to bring it back up and told me if I had any further problems to give them a call. I really wished they would of changed the darn thing to a 700CCA professional series Delco. I know this is a battery issue....if they dick me around too long, I'll just go out and buy one for $80.00-$90.00 and put it in myself. Nothing worse than wondering if your car is going to start today!

Thats funny... because i asked a buddy that works at a chevy dealer about that.... Its justa 5" long chunk of hose right near the pump its self on the top of the motor... Not a main high pressure line. Said they pay like .7 hours to do it... that dealer is gonna get fucked lol

Hmmm.....they knew about the recall, it was in their computer. You'd think they would have a procedure and part numbers for this recall. I'll post the part number of the hose and see if it jives with what your buddy says. If it was indeed the hose on top, why on earth would they have to lower the engine cradle??? Someone is not correct here and for my sake I hope it's not me.

I definitely know it's a tight squeeze with this engine. When my tensioner broke last summer, they did have to lower the engine. Never thought about the alignment issue though, and i know that wasn't done.

I should have told them to slap the LS2 cam in there while they had the motor down. LOL

I believe so, but it's by location. If you're not somewhere where you regularly hit 4*F or something like that, they probably wouldn't do it. I can't find the bulletin, but it specifically lists states where this is likely to occur.

I bought my '06 Impala used so if anyone can inform me of any and all recalls & TSBs I should know about, I'd sure appreciate it.

Thanks.

Mark, AFAIK, just the rear Brake Controller recall would need to be done if it hadn't already...that's all i've ever needed, and i got mine in Sept, 05.
