Default Going back in for service. No distance w/ Remote Start or unlock. :(

Well after I got my BCM replaced due to the p0513 DTC Service Theft Sytem. I have noticed that the range of my remote start and lock/unlock SUCKS. I used to beable to look out the window and remote start my car with no problems. Now it might lock, but when I hold down the start button on either key FOBs, it still does not work. Its going in today to get fixed, but I was wondering if any of you guys just got it replaced with an aftermarket remote start with BETTER range??? Any input would be great.

Nope...my range still sucks after they replaced the RCDLR module and fobs. I am still lucky if i can get 30' out of it...from the front of the car (where the antenna is). When i finally get to the dealer to get all of my problems fixed, i'm going to bring a new fob battery and install it in front of them and show them that the battery is not the issue.

I also noticed that the remote start is usually the issue. I can sometimes, like you said, get the car to lock or unlock...but getting it to remote start is a bitch. Sometimes even after successfully locking and/or unlocking the car, i can't get it to work again...like there is a preprogrammed "time out" for the system.

Unfortunately, that doesn't work on pre-'07 models, correct?

Thumbs up

The new Datastart kit WILL work on 07 and up.

Those numbers I posted are the new part numbers to the fix per GM service bulletin:
07-08-52-001B, also 07-08-52-001 and 07-08-52-001A

So, if you have not had it in for service since may 2007, there are new updates and parts to fix this issue.

Thanks GM...!!!

If you hold your remote start thing up to your chin (yes as in the chin on your head) you will get a little bit of a range increase. Try it. Hold it up to your chin and walk towards your car until it works....then take it away from your chin and you will see that it will no longer work. Basically, your body becomes an "antenna" of sorts.

And then slap yourself in the back of the head for holding the keyfob to your chin!!! Have you had your RCDLR replaced yet? Some of the car models get worse reception than others!!

The chin thing is true. Works on some systems better than on others though...

I AM SO F*****G pissed right now. I take the car into the dealer and we go over the problems. No sweat right? Well, when he goes to start the car up, the ******* thing come up with service theft det system AGAIN with another P0513 code...!!! Second time in a month that this has happend. The tech looked at me and said, this sucks. They are looking at it right now, but I have a bad feeling they will have to change out a few things along with the recievers. That Dodge Charger STR8 is really looking great right about now. LOL JK I just miss my car.

Wait...they swapped your BCM due to a Theft code????? WTF? Why didn't they start small and replace the TDM (Theft Deterrent Module) first? Did they rule that out?

Yes because the DTC's did not point to that. Everything pointed to the BCM. It was more then just the P0513 code that came up.

Anyways, the dealer called and said that my whole system which coves the remote start and lock/unlock was faulty and is being replaced right now. As for the other, I am going to ask them to test the Theft System and see if that is starting to go, but honestly if they say nothing is wrong there isnt much I can do until I drive it back in a 3rd time and then its not going to be pretty.

ECM, 2 Remotes, new ant, new reciever, and 2 new keys. They still did not replace the TDM. They said that there was an error with the ECM talking with the TDM per P0513, replace ECM, keys and reprogram. I am really starting to get ******* pissed off. Less then 1700 miles on this car.
