Default K&N FIPK Question

When I was assebling the intake I came across a part of thr instuctions that said to affix a CARB exempt sticker on the car...Were they supposed to put this in the kit because I certainly didn't see one....

i think they mean the sticker that they send with their filters that tell the shop they are not disposable? no shop ever touches my car so i wouldnt need such a sticker.

You don't live in California so it doesn't really matter anyway. The sticker is for smog purposes for us California people. I didn't get one with mine either because they said the were still in the process of getting CARB certification.

I didn't get a CARB sticker either, weird. It was one of my first mods however.

Same here...no CARB sticker in the kit or the filter box...but not being in CA, i didn't miss it.

Mel, I have the same monte as you - the sun roof. Do you know if GM offers a speed chip mod for this car yet?? Only thing I have done so far is ad the K&N intake.

No, nothing from GM. Check out this recent thread for some ideas, and do some searching for other specific mods you need info on (rockers, springs, etc.)

if it's a 63 series, it's not carb legal.
if it's a 57 series. it is 50 state legal.

My hose clamps keep loosening. Anyone know why? Should I buy new clamps? Thx

I had the same problem. Eventually broke the TB clamp after tightening it a couple times and had to replace it, and recently found the filter sitting on the ECM after that clamp failed...not good. Couldn't easily find the 6-8" clamp for the filter connection, so I bought (2) 4" clamps and put them together.

I think it's ultimately from overtightening. Eventually, the bottom part of the connector spreads from the stress and lets loose. One final tighten and pop it goes.

when I installed my CAI, first thing I did was use rubbing alcohol and wipe down the ends of the MAF housing, and also the inside of the K&N filter - that black plastic rubber has a greasy film on it...

wipe down the inside of the K&N flange with the rubbing alcohol - it removes that greasy film and will solve your problems. Mine has never come loose
or even moved at all from day 1.

Well I tried cleaning the intake with windex... I hope that works...Had no alchy....Thanky pour les suggestions

I had to tighten my clamps for a few weeks after installation, but after that, they've stayed put.
