Speed Limited?

Speed Limited? So I was cruising today, and as I hit 140, I got a message saying "Speed Limited to 160mph". Okay, I thought. So I keep going, and it tips to 155. And then I hit 160. Much to my suprise, I didn't get anything on the DIC. Nothing saying "Engine Shutdown in X minutes". It just sat at about 3200rpms. Anyone else have this happen at top speed?

The salesmen at the dealership were disappointed I had not opened my SS up yet. I will have plenty of chances on the way to TX next week. I thought we were limited to 140 also. I guess we will find out =)

No, they're all 140mph speedos. He was either estimating or using another device. I could get a speed read out from both my in dash nav unit or my radar detector. C&D said they were limited to 154 during their test, that's the number I always used. I've only had mine up to 120 and that was once, have no desire really to go any faster.

well yea naturally the canadian version will display higher numbers due to the main measurment being in km/h. although i doubt he has a canadian speedo in Missouri. i like setting mine to km/h so it looks like i'm accelerating alot faster than i am.

well most speedos lie there are probably few cars limited to the top number on the speedo or on the other side alot can't even make it there. My '99 Grand Am GT had a 150mph speedo and that car was limited to 126. So you used a dashhawk, I was wondering what you had used.

Same here. And aside from that, I'd rather not lose my license. Plus, I'm never on empty roads to attempt that safely anyways. Fastest I ever went was to the limiter in my GAGT at 126, and I thought that was fast haha.

my GXP has a 160mph speedo. Fastest I've had it though is 90.
I've been up to 140mph when I had my Taurus SHO. I don't think I really want to do that again unless it's on a closed track. That was about 13 years ago.
It's fun driving briskly but the roads up here in Seattle have too many people on them, and some killer pot holes that will bend your rims if you're driving nuts.

Yup, the GXP does have a 160MPH speedo in it, but let me ask you guys something. OTher then running the track, is there really a reason to get up that fast?? Like others said, its not worth getting a ticket, losing your licence or going to jail just to see where it hits. Keep it on the track or Dyno. Dont be stupid like a few friends I HAD and they ended up killing themself because they wanted to see what their 1988 firebird V8 could do.
