flowmaster loss of performance?
so there are forums out there that say flowmaster takes away performance. my car doesnt really feel as fast as the blue one i had, and i have all the same mods. so its either the blue one was a factory freak or the mufflers are taking a way a good amount of performance. what do you guys think? i had magnaflow on my last car. should i take off my mufflers and put something else on? or maybe just do an electric cut out? what do you think. i am going to the track june 21st to milan dragway in michigan and if my car doesnt run a 13.6x-13.7x im going to be pissed. lol

Paul,
Yes, the flowmasters do take away the straight flow beacuse of the baffles. Since there isnt a "straight" through shot, the exhaust has to fight its way around them, instead of straight through.
I would look at some magnaflow or see if SLP will sell the loudmouth ones from the SLP kit.

I've heard the same thing, alot. Flowmasters remind me too much of an old mustang anyway. I'd like to see a comparison though, back in the day, flowmasters were advertised as a zero backpressure muffler. I did return my unused flowmaster for a magnaflow though, haven't installed that muffler yet either. I still like the stock, unmodified sleeper sound.

I've thought about it, but that's more noise with out much if any reduction in back pressure. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of a V8 exhaust, but at this stage of the game, I want the extra sound to be extra power, and the stock Trailblazer exhaust is a pretty good flowing system. Like the ls4's more flow can be gained at a restriction in the y-pipe or down pipe instead of changing anything from the cat back. That's my opinion anyway.

I say you get the pipe that fits your preference in sound. Here are my flowmaster 40's with no resonator. Sounds sick. The sound quality of the video is spot on. I couldn't imagine how good this would sound with a full exhaust work and headers.

Here's an interesting tread about muffler comparisons https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ight=tech+spin

Rember, BADSSLS1 went low low 13's with the stock cat back, all he had exhaust wise was a CATLESS DOWNPIPE . Also, the TBSS's have a y that goes to a 3 inch section with a 3 inch in 2.75 inch out single exhaust. It seems like 3 inches is enough to handle 395hp and maybe more.

The new GT Mustangs have true dual exhaust and use 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipe. We have all eight cylinders pushing through 2 1/2" single pipe. Both engines make 300hp.
