Default air intake 07 impala ss

Hey I have a 4" filter and a couple pieces of 4" polished aluminum and a 4" to 3" reducer
I plan on doing a DIY air intake but I am wondering is there anything I can do with the MAF
like take it out and mount it into the piping or is it something where the whole piece has to stay there?

you need that whole piece... it has the sensors in it for the MAF, sensor for your IAT, and the screen for the airflow across them...
