Default lt1 383 6 speed CAM

i have a 95 lt1 6 speed formula, i am building a 383 motor fully forged JE 10-2-1 pistons, eagle h beams, studded mains, stock lt1 heads ported like crazy, 205 1.6 valves, huge behive valve springs 600 lift i think or more. motor is all together now im having a hard time chosing a cam. im looking a the gm847 but the cc306 sounds like a meaner cam. what cam would give me the best performace an most radical idle, im going to be running all motor for now, maybe in the future i will run nitrious when i get the suspension to handle it. please let me hear what u guys have to say about the cams, i know there have been other threads started simular to this ive read almost all of them and still dont know what to get. i want to stay with hyd roller too, not intrested in solid right now.

Yea i've also been considering talking to LE, thanks guys!!

Im the engine builder lol. the engine was built a few years ago, the guy ran it for less then 50 miles and only 1 pass. Then let the car sit for a year due to a bent valve and getting into the gaurd rail at the track. He ran it with a cc306 and a d1sc, i've freshend it up and sold the cam awhile back.

i just kinda wanted to hear what u guys have and get an idea of what i want. Im really thinkin bout the 847 cuz the 306 is old tech but seems to have a rougher idle then the 847 so ive heard ive just been hearing theres bigger an better cams out there?

idk the specs on those off the shelf cams but with a stroker motor they eat duration. so your able to go with a cam that'd be over kill in a 350 but a streetable cam for a 383 talk to lloyd he'll help you out dont do all that work and then skimp wen it come to a vital part.

call lunati. tell them you want a 60122 for a lt1 with a 106 lsa and 4 degrees advance. make sure they know it is for a 383. specs on that cam are 231/239 .535/.555.

that cam would be a custom grind so nobody would have a sound clip of it. that lift is with 1.5 rockers so if you have 1.6 it would be .570/.586. they do offer a 243/251 .560/.565 cam in that same line of cams.

Lloyd is a great choice as I just ordered my custom grind from him this week. I have a very similar setup to yours running about 10.5:1 or 11.1:1 comp ratio. Lloyd spec'd out a cam in the range of 230/236 on a 108 LSA so it will chop pretty good and will have an awesome torque curve.

Let us know what he sets up for you when you are all done.

my 11:1 383 with le2 heads currently has a custom variation of his le2 cam, its a .601 lift 107 lsa and i think 236 or 238 duration it should idle nice and have a sick curve for a street car

That cam sounds like a decent choice. I'm a big fan of smaller duration cams with more lift. My cam is fairly weenie at 226/234 .568" on a 111 lsa in my 383, but I continually show guys with overcammed junk my tail lights...You made me cringe at first when you asked about rough idles and that kind of crap. The lopey idle doesnt make you fast...Sounding fast and being fast dont always go hand in hand. I'm glad you went to someone with knowledge for advice...My cam has a pretty kick *** 950 rpm choppy idle, but thats not why I chose it.

When folks ask on here what cam to go with I always say to ask those who are accomplishing your goals already and pick their brains...

as it is the car with almost 200k miles will burn a over cammed junk, i just really with this 383 want the best performace with the race car sound if i had to give up the choppy idle for the best power i would, but lloyd seems to be helping me out with the best of both worlds on that very glad i got refferd to him. now im just wondering what kinda hp numbers it could make at best. like i said thanks to everyone that helped
