Glad to hear you had great results! I also switched to Royal Purple not too long ago. I've never had the sludge problem but I'm a little more satisfied now...I guess.

I understood your post. A lot of oils, particularly synthetics, have good cleaning characteristics. Is Royal Purple better than it used to be? From the used oil analsyis I've heard about, their engine oils used to shear down pretty bad. I recently used some RP gear oil in the front differential of my Jeep.

Royal Purple makes probably the best automatic transmission fluid, it foams up the least compared with other brands and doesn’t break down at high pressures or temperatures.
Their engine oils are like other high performance synthetic oils, they’re all very good. One long standing oil that’s well ahead of the pack is GERMAN MADE Castrol 0-30. A very highly rated newcomer is the Penzoil Platinum. These two oils are better than the Royal Purple stuff and cheaper too. There''s been much talk here about the GC.
What most people use because other people use it or because of advertisements flooding the media and magazines does not make it the "best". Everybody here should subscribe to and follow BISTOG at http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/

I run German Castrol in my Jeep. I'll be running it in my Z28 whenever I get it back on the road. My Z has had Mobil1 in it since the initial oil change. When I pulled it out of storage a couple years ago, I changed the oil out with WalMart Syntec.

I don't know anything about Brad Penn, but there has been empirical evidence suggesting that RP might not be as good as advertised.

Not anymore.. Most Engine Oils have way more detergents than ATF anymore. You'd be better off using a good synthetic 5w20 in place of trying to use ATF.
That's old bahh humbug Bullshit. Please don't try and start a pennzoil is parafin wax oil BS.. parafin wax most people try to assosciate with oil is completely different...
All this thread tell me, was his engine was sludged up. He went to a synthetic oil that cleaned the sludge away. So much so, that it clogged things up...

Sooner than most people. When I changed my oil, it was barely 1000 miles since the switch.
I’ll probably switch to German Castrol for my next oil change (RP is too expensive). I have to give props to RP for doing such a good job of cleaning out my engine though.

I was asked in a PM which Castrol is the German one? Thought I'd post the answer here so ya'all can see it. It must say "made in Germany" on the back. This is the only Castrol product I'd use, I wouldn't fry fish with their other stuff. German Castrol is often found in the US in Auto Zone.

Hey, RP is the best ... just look at any of the tests they've sponsored and come out on top in LMAO.
Seriously though, great to hear the motor is clean now. I hope it stays that way.
