Living proof that Royal Purple owns...
I'll start by saying that I'm almost 100% positive my car has always run on conventional oil. I have no proof though, because I'm the second owner. Well anyways, about 2 months ago I switched to Royal Purple.
I routinely check my car's fluids. A few days ago I checked my oil, and it was dirty, but it was ok. My oil pressure was so low my gauges light came on when idling, so I replaced the sending unit. Oil pressure went right back to how it should be. Next day, my oil pressure was worse than ever (dead at idle). I figured "alright, guess I should change the oil too then". I checked my oil today, and it looked like ******' tar. By some strange coincidence(?), all the gunk in my engine decided to give way after I replaced the sending unit. My oil poured out like normal, followed by streams of sludge... and that's my Royal Purple story, lol.

yeah these guys reading comprehension is not muy bueno! lol.
It's because royal purple is a fully synthetic oil. It doesn't necessarily provide the best protection, but it'll clean it up for you.

same thing happened after I ran Mobil 1 the first time, except I never had oil pressure issues so it probably wasn't quite as bad. The car had been getting Penzoil dino juice. the oil was NASTY just like you describe.
EDIT: nevermind, it for sure wasn't to the extent you describe. it was just really thick and nasty.
