Default Concept LT5 + Concept Northstar in Concept Banshee = W...T...F...?!

Was perusing Google Images for stuff, and came across a picture of an engine that I figured had to be a concept of the LT5, until I actually went to the page to find out that it's not. It's a 4.0L DOHC like the LT5, looks to have the same intake as the LT5 (but with standard TB), yet it's a singular block with no actual heads o_0 How it's DOHC system works, I'd love to know, as I can't even begin to imagine. Such as, how the valves are put in, other than maybe with the engine completely apart and you have to weasel them in through the cylinders heh I wonder if the "engine program that was abandoned" was the one GM worked on for a DHOC motor based on the SBC, before they found out it just wouldn't work and commissioned Lotus to design one (which became the LT5). There is no basis for me using "Concept Northstar", it was just the really small 4.0L that made me think of a NS motor heh

SUCH an odd duck!

the 4th gen resemblance is close, and I really like the idea of an integral block/head design, eliminating heads is a great idea for reliability, and deffinetely for performance!!!
I would liek to see this style of engine completed in anything!

I'm willing to bet with that Engine that the Pistons come out the bottom and the Valves go in like that..honestly I would love to see that. That is the only way I can think of how it would come apart.

I think its a horrible idea.

Lets port the heads! Oh, wait, cant cuz they are part of the block. Plus, performance was horrible - all the extra complications for only 230hp? .

A SBC can have as low as 110hp, and as high as 375hp (Gen 1, factory rating). While no, it's not even as close as that motor when it comes to complexity, but my point is that you can build a motor to have how ever much HP you want. So a pretty untested design putting out what the TPI motors were, with 1.7L LESS, is pretty good

Yea..I guess it's good for the time.

The goal I like to get to is 100hp/liter..I'm close to it with 90hp/liter from what I figure, so that makes me happy.

The 91-92 were also based off of that, but just the front bumper and spoiler. It was a bit of a sneak peak into the 4th gen body style for the Firebirds.
