Default removing oil pan

can it be done without pulling the motor? I imagine the K-member has to be pulled but what can keep the motor in place for me to pull the pan if I lower the K-member. If there is something i am overlooking and an easier way, please let me know!!

you can leave the k-member in place. just remove the two long motor mount bolts and jack up the engine.

Yes it can be done. Undo the motor mounts, jack up the engine and support it with a stand or support it from the top with a cherry picker. You can also undo the k-member bolts without undoing the shock tower bolts. That should give you all the clearance you need. Also don't forget to remove the oil level sensor before you drop the pan so it doesn't snag on anything.
It's going to be a PITA, but it's doable.

It's easy if you have an A4. Like the other guys said just take out the motor mount bolt on each side and lift or jack the engine up. Drain the oil, take out the low oil level switch, unbolt the pan, and pull it out.

Keep an eye in the oil pressure sending unit behind the intake manifold. If the angle is right you can push it into the firewall and break it.

Yep PITA!! I read once to jack the motor up all the way and when you think it't jacked all the way , jack it up some more. LOL!

Sounds good, but, where do you jack the engine at? jacking point? if you're trying to remove the oil pan.

You can jack it up from the hub or the pan. You can also use a cherry picker from up top. I just use a block of wood under the oil pan. As long as you aren't muscling it up there, it should lift the engine without damaging the pan at all.

I have heard from guys with 6 speed cars that the bellhousing gets in the way and jacking the motor up alone is not enough, you need to lower the k member some also. It may be just them not doing it right or you may really need to. I never had to remove the oil pan from a 6 speed car.

I jack it up from the oil pan and use little 2x4's cut into squares as spacers in between the motor mounts and the k-member to hold up the engine. Then I move the jack out of the way.

For those that doubt:

I replaced the oil pan on my M6 z28 in may and all i did was jack the motor up as high as it would go, and turn the crank until the pan slid out.

never touched the K-member

^That's what I figured you could do. Someone was on here telling everyone you had to jack the motor up and lower the k member on a M6 car last time this topic came up.

i don't know if these pics will help you, but when my oil pan gasket was changed last summer (along with the intake manifold gasket and valve cover gaskets) they used a cherry picker to lift up the engine and remove the oil pan. my car is an A4 FWIW
