Lightbulb By May I won't be driving an LT1 anymore..

So.. I'm getting a deal on an LS1/T56 swapped into my car. I'll have it in by May if everything goes to plan. I was VERY close to putting an AI 226/234 cam kit in my car, but my transmission is going to crap soon and I will be uncomfortable driving my cammed car around on a busted trans, so that's more money I'd have to spend to have it done right.

I've got a great deal on getting the motor swapped in, giving him my old motor and trans while it still works good as a credit. I'm getting a 2000 model WS6 drivetrain from a car with 148k, motor has about 60k on it (stock) and rebuilt trans has like 10k on it. It will have some longtubes on it already and an LS7 clutch.

I've highly thought about just spending this money on camming/rebuilding the LT1, but I think longterm of course the LS1 is obviously a good choice, but "freshness" of the motor/trans really has me psyched.

Here's my donor

Nice man. I honestly think you made the right choice with a bolt-on LS1.
Plus T56 > 4L60E.

do you know for sure that both have been freshened up? (IE - receipts?)

because who knows you might be trading a perfectly good LT1 for a hurt LS1

btw is he giving you harness, mounts, etc?

I agree :\ The trans I got would've made me think twice if I'd seen receipts. I even asked him what all was put into it, and got no response. That should've tipped me off I guess.

Good luck on the swap though HoLLo! While we all love our LT1s, we all won't deny we'd swap them for a Gen III if a good deal came along

I'm gonna have Speartech modify the harness. And pretty much I'm getting everything attached to the K-member dropped from the old car and bolted up to my car. Including the steering rack (mine is BAD) and LS1 brakes

I don't have receipts, but the guy I'm workin with is a friend, great local guy. He says it's all in good condition, but has no receipts. It can't be worse than what I have right now anyway haha. The motor sounds GOOD. but I have not driven it, it's coming from a car that went into a ditch.

Hook that 150 shot up to your new motor and get ready to dominate!

Try to pick up a LS6 intake manifold. You should be able to pick one up for ~300 plus shipping. You notice real quick how simple an intake manifold swap on a LS1 is.
Bolt on that plate, and you'll be ready to rip.

I might be getting an LS6 manifold also, this guy buys and sells f-body parts like crazy and he is expecting a 2001 LS1 to come in, so I MIGHT get it and keep the longtubes from the motor you see in the pic above.

That would be your best bet.

As much as I'll miss the sound and low-end torque of the LT1, I can't wait to get the LS1 in

Put some money on my motor yesterday. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas.

I'm gonna have my barely used Pacesetter coated longtubes, SPEC Stage 2 Clutch installed in October with maybe 2000 miles on it, BBK throttle body, and a LT1 nitrous plate all for sale.

Well mine is going to be a 632 stroker!!! Kidding of course, I have no plans on a BBC or SBC rebuild If I did though, THAT would be it!

Yea, the GEN III/IV sound is a different flavor of GM, that's for sure, but they can still sound good with the right exhaust! And you COULD always get a cam to move the torque band down lower and yet still retain some higher RPM HP. That's what I'd do ^_^ ... but what do I know haha

I wouldn't. Even if it was all free, including the install.

Diehard lt1 owner here.
