Default Things are not looking good for the shootout!

With only about 10 or so weeks until the shootout we only have 20 cars registered and only a few sponsors. Last year at this time we had at least 40-50 registered and about 8-10 sponsors most of which were at the level 2 sponsorship. This year all but LTXTECH is level 3 (lowest amount).

What is the cause of this? I think the economy. I have called all of the sponsors from last year and most can not sponsor this year because of slowing sales and business. And some racers are having hard economic times causing them not to make the trip. After calling and emailing numerous other companies for help I have not had much luck.

Guys the cost of the race last year was around $8500-9000.(don't know the exact figure off the top of my head). This included $3500 worth of payouts. So you figure around $5000 for the track costs which include track rental, track officials and crew, track prep, ambulance and safety, NHRA tech-in guy, insurance coverage.........etc.

I am having a hard time making myself sign the track contract and send in the deposit even though I should have done it weeks ago. It is a legal binding contract and I would be responsible for the final bill.

As of right now with the $1500 title sponsorship from LTXTECH.COM, 20 registered racers $1000, and about $1000 from the other smaller sponsors the track rental is not covered yet. Now I know the spectator gate will help some and also the racers that do not register online but pay at the gate will help. Just not sure if we can make ends meet this year. I am certain pay-outs will not happen with the way it is looking right now.

I will give this a couple more weeks. (Hopefully the track will still hold our date). I will need to see more registered entries and a few more sponsors to step in. If this does not pan out I will send all sponsorship fees back and refund the people registered.

With all the interest of this event I am surprised of the outcome we are seeing. Kyle, myself, and others have worked hard on this and want it to be a success again. Hopefully it can still happen.

Tony Shepherd

UPDATE: Thanks to all of you we now have more sponsors that have stepped up to the plate. The race is for sure a GO!

times are tough, but we need to have some fun with our cars....so sign up!

I would be willing to give up the chance of pay outs to help make this happen. I know I have been planning for this since last year and have a bunch of **** planned to do before the shoot out.

lets pull together and make this happen

I registered and paid my fees even though I don't think I can have my car together by race day. I need to concentrate on Tony's car, but I am trying to support the cause, so sign in and lets make this happen, Even bone stock cars can run and you'd be surprised how many 13 second cars can win their class. Dont have to be fast, Just have to be consistent....

I would LOVE to come, just too far. I need new rear tires($450) the trip up and back with hotel rooms, entry fee, food etc...by the time I got done would be an easy $1500 I dont have right now. I just went back to work after being off for 4 months.

If I WAS going, I would be happy to race for a trophy and $100. But thats just me. Especially if GMHTP was covering it again.
