Default Fml!!!

I think my tranny just took a crap on my Trans Am.. hopefully not the engine

Was driving home from Ramsey just cruising.. Noticed a light smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle.

Turn onto the busy intersection near my house and start going up the slight incline of the hill and all of a sudden the car won't shift into 3rd and I'm cruising at 30mph at like 3500rpm in 2nd...

Pull into my driveway and a crapload of fluid is coming from just near my Y-pipe. Some smoke was coming out of the engine also so thats why I'm scared it might be the engine... I heard no popping noises or anything before this happened... Oil of some sort was all over the rear of my car

Hoping its not the engine.. If its the tranny it just means that I can finally upgrade to an FLT...

You need to find out exactly what kind of fluid it is. Tranny fluid is reddish in color. Motor oil is...well, you should know what oil looks like.

red=trans fluid, brown or black (depending on your last oil change) = engine oil.

I finally let a decent amount of it drip out on my cardboard piece and took a paper towel to it. Its the tranny fluid.

My guess is that a pump broke or my rear main seal blew out

I think it is coming from the front pump on the tranny. Fluid was pooling and the pan is still on. Maybe I blew the rear-main ?? idk

But its going to be down for the count for about a month or two (FML, nice weather) until I get the money and then I'm going to get my new opti, ignition stuff, M/T tires, and a FLT Stage 4 to connect my Yank SS 3600 too

Hopefully by then I will have some money to start working on suspension parts too, but I'm not going to get too ahead of myself.

I wish.. Already have the Yank SS3600 and 29k BTU tranny cooler though so I'm probably just going to stick with what I got

Guess it was a nice way to upgrade my tranny to one a little more.. power holding... but the goal was originally to have the money before I did that

(Repairs on the DD kinda tapped out my safety fund)

Now the question on what new tranny to get

Need opinions from people who use both

Performabuilt level 2 or FLT Stage 4?

Performabuilt is $1650 w/ free ship and they buy back old core for $150 and take care of shipping costs with that and 1 year warranty

FLT Stage 4 = $2275 w/ shipping and core charge. $300 redeemable when FLT says my old core is good.

What do you guys think?

You are just bolt on's right now right? Heads and cam later? You'd probably be fine with the stage 2 tranny, but I'm not an expert with them autos.

I'm going bigger on the tranny now for my future build

Eventually want 355 longblock w/ LE2 heads/cam and a 200shot of nitrous

Stage 4 FLT would be fine with that for sure

Idk much about Performabuilt though??? They claim its rated for 700hp but idk if thats fully believeable

If you do a few searches there was a car with a Performabuilt Lvl 2 that ran 9's. . . i'd say they really can hold as much power as advertised, now how long that is always the next question.
