cant exactly locate the noise, wherever you go to listen is where you hear it at. sounds like a hollow really loud screetching sound. i'll let you listen and maybe you guys can guess.

had a friend of mine with a c4 that said his opti did this in his vette. but not sure.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Kut0ohMy8E

and its stuck at buddys house, so as soon as i can figure out the problem i'll be able to get it out of his driveway.

Does it run OK? Can't really hear the motor but it seems like it's running rough judging by how much it's shaking. Is the oil pressure good? Do all the pulleys appear to be spinning normally? Try pulling the belt off and start it briefly just to see if it still does it.

mine made that exact noise when my flex plate was hitting my starter. my flex plate was unbalanced causing it to move and hit it.

but what im getting at is that your flywheel could be hitting the starter. It was the same noise i hear on mine. It wouldnt hurt to look at your bendix gear on the starter and see if you notice any wear.

Here's a few things to try, take the valve covers off check everything out. Hell it may be hitting the valve cover to much lift? Spray some lubricant on the belts an pulleys. Even though it didn't sound like an exhaust leak check the bolts holding ur headers/manifolds on? Check the spark plugs out to, any trouble codes?

no codes, that vid is also with the valve covers off.

had someone hear it over the phone and said could be crank bearing. if thats the case than a h/c 355 with full bmr suspension and a 12 bolt will be going into the car.

that or go buy an ls1 car?

Try and locate the sound. Go from there.

On my 97 the opti never made any funny noises before it died. It just conked out one night.. that was it.

did you try taking the belt off? always hard to diagnose without being there but almost sounds like a pulley is seizing.
