Default Made my own custom intake (Large pics)

After reading several intake threads on here, and looking at pics of your setups, I decided to piece together a custom CAI.

I thought about doing the LS1 lid, but I figured I should try my own.
The SOTP meter seems to tell me I did good.
And I didn't have to trim the core support or the underside of the hood.

Total cost was about $100, and I could have spent less.

I do wonder if i need a radiator cover, as I don't think its going anywhere.

doesnt look good with the radiator and cooler showing like that. put it back in and trim it then it would look better. also clean up the engine bay.

If your letting the radiator and condenser just lay there you are dumb and should never be allowed to own/drive a car again.

dont forget to reconnect the smog pump hose that is just laying there. If you dont have to worry about emissions then remove the whole system and throw in some headers non-emission. And you def need to make a rad support. you fans will start hitting the water pump causing it to break the housing. Or possibly rub a hole in the radiator hose

tomorrow will be radiator support day.
what sensor was in the elbow? trying to decide where to replace it and if its necessary. I dont need emmissions here, but new headers wont be till next year. I need a cat-back first anyway.

thanks for the informative post hillbilly

if you are able to re-use the original radiator support (given that the radiator didnt get pushed back to far) i would try to just cut the amount needed for the tube to pass through the middle of it. If not then you can buy a sheet of Al big enough to make one yourself and try to pull the radiator as close back to original angle as possible.

The sensor that went in the elbow is the idle air temp IAT sensor. You can either buy an extension on cut/slice and soldier the wires to desired length and place it where ever you want on the CAI. Alot of people move it as far away from the heated engine bay as possible to trick the engine into thinking it is receiving colder air by getting the reading at a further away location. But regardless it does need to be reinserted back into the CAI in some shape form or fashion. GL

Good work man. The IAT does need to be incorporated in there somehow and I would just cap and forgetabout the AIR tube.

Well I was speaking the truth. If it didnt need a Rad support GM would have spent all the money for it to have one!

I thought about using the fog light openings, but after some investigating, decided it would be more difficult, with little gain.
I was able to fit the rad. cover back on after some cutting.
I think this will help with airflow into the radiator more than anything, as the radiator was held down by the intake.
And no, I wont post anymore pics of my dirty, high mileage, oil leaking, stock motor.

dont let people get you down. If you like it and it serves the purpose of getting more/cooler air to the engine then that is all that matters

You are getting there..it's a work in progress.

Here are pics of mine for an idea, I used some Stainless Steel for a Radiator Support..
