Question wont shift at WOT

So i finally picked up another f-body 95 z28 a4, great condition very well taken care of,pretty much stock besides shift kit, 3.42 gears and catback. It shifts just fine driving normally and under partial throttle but at WOT once it gets to redline it will just bounce off the rev limiter till i get off the throttle and back on a few times, the car has never been tuned is that all i need? i keep getting mixed answers saying a tune wont do anything and then saying thats all that is wrong. im very confused on what to do

thanks in advance for any help,
Nate

Does it do that in overdrive, or are you going through the gears? Because I was doing that (trying to shift through the gears) and I kept hitting the rev limiter?? Then I found out that there is a second delay when shifting through the gears....

your tranny fluid is prob just low...under normal accel you have enough pressure to shift, but not under WOT.

add about 1/2qt tranny fluid and try again.

Say goodbye to your 3-4 frictions. The fat lady is singing for them. Start saving man, it sucks I know.

no problem, but if its low, i'd have a look underneath...u might have a leak around the trans pan gasket or on the trans rear seal

was it tuned for for the 3.42's if not the speedo will read work also causing the shift points to be off causing it to hit the rev limiter before getting to the shift point at wot.

to self.

You need to have the pcm adjusted for the 3.42's. A hypertech, pcmforless, madtuner, etc can take care of this.

A hypertech is a basic handheld tuning device and pcmforless is a mail order company that does affordable mail order tunes. Try picking up a used hypertech or diablo sport handheld tuner.

Good call. You could do it with tunercats but if you dont even know what a tuner is i wouldnt delve into diy tuning just yet.

Just tell Ion what is done to the car and he will hook it up

just so you know, i to have had problems with the transmission doing the exact same thing. I also thought it was a tuning issue, but being just out of high school and no money i let it ride (just dealt w/ it). Had my trans rebuilt (when it went out), still had the same problem.

LONG story short, fluid showed PERFECT on the stick, added a quart of trans fluid, car shifts perfect now (when it ran).

ADD FLUID!!!

my car has 3.73 and has NEVER been tuned...

If it shows full on the stick and you added a QUART, either your dipstick is messed up or your foaming some fluid!!!! If you put 3.73 gears in and have never tuned it your pcm is getting inaccurate information which not only affects the shift points but also affects your odometer!!

isnt that called the "STALL WALL " ?? My car was doing that after the bigger converter pcmforless is going to fix that with my new tune most major mods you will need a tune for gears, converter, heads, cam, intake etc

T56 swap...

JK. Hopefully the tune and possibly some extra fluid will fix the issue.

The stick is wrong, who knew. But all i can tell you is it shifts perfectly when (overfilled)...

AND i couldn't care less about the odometer...
me and my pcm are on a need to know basis.
