Default Delteq reading mph instead of RPM (dyno)

Guys took the car to Ed Wright's Friday to finally get tuned. Got there at 9:00AM and left at 8:00 PM. The day was plagued with issues and it looks like once all of the little bugs are worked out I will be making another trip.

Something that I thought was odd was that the dyno about 80% of the time was reading in MPH other than RPM on the dyno?? Any other delteq users run into this? Ed does not like the delteq, but it has been on my car since they came out and has been trouble free so I plan to keep it.

Any input would be appreciated.

P.S. I am no tuner so a lot of the things discussed was way over my head, glad I have a close friend that knows what he is doing.

Not sure about your issue, but if they charge by the hour, that's one expensive dyno session!!

i used the delteq sys but never had the car on the dyno, the only problem i had was an extended crank. but i sold the car short while after
and i believe it was due to a bad fuel reg

ive only had mine on the rollers once but never experienced that issue. not sure how the delteq setup would have anything to do with the dynos base unit though

You can set the Dyno to read, MPH, Engine Speed or Time.

X2

Was it a possibility that he could not get it to read/sense RPM?

That is exactly my point, he said that the delteq couldn't pick something up that the opti could????

What was weird is that it showed RPM every now and then, but mostly just MPH.

Can you run him a wire off the pcm for tack pickup?

I forget what pin it is but years ago when I tried to dyno my cam only setup they had to do it in mph because of inductive pickup problems. Got home did some reading and found the info I needed and put a short lead off a certain pin in the pcm and they can read rpm off that. If you need more info I can go digging through the wiring and find what pin it was. On my Caprice there was no wiring there.

96capricemgr that sounds about right, It would be much appreciated if you could find that info.
Something that I think I should have added in the beginning is that I have TCI box and autometer guages. At the moment my MPH gauge does not work, b/c we don't have a very good solution to tapping in the TCI tranny box with the MPH gauge. All of my autometer gauges use the factory wiring, it can plug in just like the factory gauge set.

Bruce, what kind of numbers did you put down btw? ITs Ben, but basically on 6 cylinders, no meth, 105 degree heat, unlocked 4L80E it made 528rwhp (couldn't even read TQ) The day was horrible, one problem after another, Ed told me to get everything lined out and let me barrow his wideband, and bring the car back for some real tuning. Should be around 700 with all the bugs worked out.
On one of the first pulls it made 27Xrwhp on 4lbs, thats stock LT1 6speed numbers, lol.

Better yet I found the writeup I used as instructions.

This was written for b-bodies so the pcm location looks a little odd to you being it is behind the headlight but I assume the wiring will be the same.

Ben, my bad. I get you mixed w/ another friend of mine. Are you running dual nozzles on your meth kit? Running pure or a 50/50 mix? 700rwhp should be attainable maybe even a tad more.

Hopefully (keeping fingers crossed) in 2 wks or less I'll be strapped to the dyno. Been long overdue since I basically havent driven the car in over a yr. I'll let you know what I put down and maybe get a quick vid up if possible too.

Running Dual nozzles (biggest ones offered) 100% meth, didn't get a chance to spray it though, well not yet anyways.

Yea man can't wait, your car is going to be a monster, just hope you don't have as much trouble as me.
